The bestselling author of the Sigma Force novels continues to dazzle in this high-octane thriller where the team attempts to solve a centuries-old secret coded in prophecies of doom.
From the Publisher:
The best-selling author of The Last Oracle and The Judas Strain presents a latest work in which the Sigma Force must solve a centuries-old secret involving coded prophecies about dark events leading to a future apocalypse. Simultaneous.
In James Rollins's scintillating sixth Sigma Force novel, the team must somehow unravel a diabolic triple homicide, burdened by the fact that the murders take place on three different continents. Commander Grayson Pierce and his crew soon discover a secret code attached to a mummified corpse, which in turn unveils the "Doomsday Key," an ancient medicinal substance which could easily eradicate humanity from existence. The Sigma members split up to scour the globe for this mysterious lethal material, never suspecting that one of their own is harboring traitorous intentions.
Author Bio
James Rollins
James Rollins is widely acclaimed for his action-adventure tales, while James Clemens is best known for his popular fantasy novels. The two are, however, one and the same; Rollins and Clemens are both pen names of former veterinarian James Paul Czajkowski. He has told interviewers that he has a common aim, no matter the genre. "My goal when I set out to write is not to examine the human condition or explore the trials and tribulations of modern society," he asserts. "When I set out to write, I aim for pure . . . adventure, pure escape and entertainment. I follow the three M's of storytelling: murder, magic, and mayhem." Czajkowski was born in Chicago, and from an early age he was a fan of pulp novels from the 1930s and ?40s. He also loved tales about explorers like Howard Carter, who discovered the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen, and anything by Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. In 1985 he earned a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Missouri and subsequently opened a veterinary practice in Sacramento, California. An avid spelunker and scuba diver, he also relaxed by writing in his spare time. Meeting one of his idols, fantasy writer Terry Brooks, at a conference led to an introduction to Brooks's publisher, who released the first Clemens novel, WIT'CH FIRE, in 1998. The following year, his first action-adventure, SUBTERRANEAN, was published under the name Rollins. Since then, he has regularly published under both names; he has admitted that at book signings he sometimes gets confused and autographs a volume incorrectly, but that fans don't generally seem to mind.
