Annotation:
Melanie was kidnapped by her biological father at the age of three. Six years later she was found wandering the streets of Los Angeles, just blocks from the home where her father's bloody corpse lay. What happened during those years? Did Melanie witness her father's murder? And can she possibly know the reason for the massive carnage that is occurring in the city? Although she hasn't seen Melanie in years, her mother, and an L.A.P.D. detective, hope that they can coax the little girl into revealing what powerful force holds the city in its sway. The author released a revised version of this novel in 1994.
Author Bio
Dean R. Koontz
Along with Stephen King, Koontz is the preeminent horror writer of his age, selling millions and millions of books worldwide. Koontz had a horrific childhood; his father was an abusive alcoholic and his mother was mentally unstable, and they both actively discouraged him from pursuing a writing career. However, when the 12-year-old Koontz won an essay contest, the seed was planted. He studied education and was a high school English teacher from 1967 to 1969, at which point he began writing full time. At the end of the '90s, Dean Koontz has written nearly 80 books of suspense or horror.
