In a cozy, cumulative tale, a snowman comes alive as the child building it adds pieces during the magical first ten days of winter.

A cozy, cumulative book to warm a cold winter day

Alive with swirling snow and lots of outdoor fun, the first ten days of winter bring special gifts for a special friend. This cumulative tale will have children chanting along as they discover all the trimmings needed for the most perfect snowman ever!

A riff on the popular holiday song, "The 12 Days of Christmas," this spirited picture book is narrated by a delighted snowman, who receives all sorts of wintry necessities for the first 10 days of winter, beginning on December 21st. Slowly, he is bedecked with a red hat, two lovely blue mittens, three fantastic scarves, and so on. With multimedia artwork in an explosion of color and texture. A 2005 Kirkus Reviews Best Children's Book.
Author Bio
Denise Fleming
Denise Fleming's career as an artist began when she was in the third grade and one of her paintings was reproduced on the cover of a magazine for teachers. Her career in children's publishing began in 1984 when she illustrated Alice Low's ALL THROUGH THE TOWN. The first book she both wrote and illustrated was 1991's IN THE TALL, TALL GRASS. Many of Fleming's picture book illustrations are "pulp paintings" which are created by forcing colored cotton pulp through hand-cut stencils. Her 1993 work IN THE SMALL, SMALL POND was named a Caldecott Honor Book.

Kirkus Reviews
"Teachers and librarians will add this volume to story times with winter or snow themes, and the clever new words to a favorite old tune might become a new winter favorite in music classrooms." 09/15/2005
