From the Publisher:

Reprint.
Annotation:
A scientist argues that an individual's belief in God is illogical and/or foolish, and that organized religion has been behind a great deal of violence and harm throughout history. Richard Dawkins, from Oxford, considers the many conceptions of God and the many arguments for his existence, and finds them to be wanting. Atheism, says Dawkins, is a rational alternative that can provide a true appreciation of the wondrous bounty of the world.
Author Bio
Richard Dawkins
Richard Dawkins was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1941, where his father was stationed while fighting with the Allied Forces in World War II. The family returned to England in 1949, where Dawkins was raised and educated, eventually earning his PhD in zoology from Oxford in 1966. His first teaching job was at the University of California at Berkeley in 1967, where he was an active participant in anti-Vietnam War rallies and protests. In 1970, he returned to Oxford as a professor, and has since held various prestigious positions at the university, including Simonyi Professor for the Public Understanding of Science. In 1976, Dawkins entered into the greater public's conscience with his first book, THE SELFISH GENE, which greatly enhanced awareness of how evolution works at the genetic level. He has remained at the forefront of the international scientific community, revolutionizing concepts of sociobiology and engaging in a playful public debate with his associate Stephen Jay Gould over the details of evolutionary development. Dawkins has also been a prominent critic of creationists and proponents of intelligent design, arguing that the abundance of conclusive evidence supporting the history of evolution marks opposing arguments as irrelevant and absurd. In his 2006 bestseller, THE GOD DELUSION, Dawkins publicly promoted the righteousness of atheism, citing the long history of atrocities performed in the name of various faiths.

Praise

"Mr. Dawkins is an atheist, an evolutionary biologist and an eloquent communicator about science, three passions that have allowed him to construct a particularly comprehensive case against religion. Everyone should read it." 09/23/2006

"What Dawkins brings to this approach is a couple of fresh arguments--no mean achievement, considering how thoroughly these issues have been debated over the centuries--and a great deal of passion. The book fairly crackles with brio." - Jim Holt 10/22/2006

"[Dawkins has] got to go on the warpath--not only against the fundamentalists but against the sloppy logic and wishful thinking on which they batten. This is Dawkins's forte, and it is what makes THE GOD DELUSION such an entertaining read. Not one for politeness, he is the sort of fierce logic-chopper who chuckles nastily when coming across what he regards as some particularly choice bit of inanity." - Daniel Lazare 05/28/2007
