The #1 "New York Times" bestselling author explores a darker realm of the heart in this emotional tale. When a young widow finally takes a chance on new love, her life becomes a living nightmare as one man's jealousy spins into a deadly obsession.
From the Publisher:
Julie Barenson's young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died-a Great Dane puppy named Singer and the promise that he would always be watching over her. Now, four years have passed. Still living in the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina, twenty-nine-year-old Julie is emotionally ready to make a commitment to someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, the handsome, sophisticated engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down-to-earth nice guy who was her husband's best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she's had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by a chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire...
Annotation:
Nicholas Sparks's first suspense novel features Julie Barenson, a young widow who finds comfort after her husband's death in the Great Dane who has become her favorite companion--a legacy from her late husband. When she makes her way back into the world after her first grief, she gets romantically involved with Richard, a mysterious man who hides a devastating secret--one that Julie comes close to finding out, the hard way, as her lover threatens to become her destroyer....
Author Bio
Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Sparks was born on New Year's Eve, 1965, in Omaha, Nebraska. The son of a scholar, his early years were largely nomadic until his father settled into a Ph.D. program at the University of Southern California. Like his father, Sparks excelled intellectually throughout high school and college at the University of Notre Dame. His first love, however, was running. When a severe tendon injury forced him off the track during his first year of college, Sparks, at his mother's request, delved into writing. His first book, THE PASSING, was never published and still sits in his family's attic. Several years passed, during which time Sparks married and had two sons. After surviving uninspiring careers as a real estate appraiser, waiter, telemarketer, and entrepreneur, Sparks wrote his first published work, THE NOTEBOOK. This inspirational love story based on the life of his grandparents was an instant best-seller in 1996. Since then, he has written two other books--MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE (1998) and A WALK TO REMEMBER (1999)--both of which have achieved best-seller status. MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE was adapted for film in 1999 and starred Kevin Costner, Paul Newman, and Robin Wright Penn.
