Winter was on the way. Lisa took her woolen clothes out of the chest and carried them outside. (from the first line)
This delightful companion to Brett's bestselling "The Mitten" is certain to be met with the same wide acclaim. When Lisa's woolen stocking flies off the clothesline, Hedgie finds it and pokes his nose in it. But when he tries to pull it off, the stocking won't budge. And so the fun begins, as six noisy farm animals laugh at Hedgie, especially when he tries to pretend that he's wearing a new hat. Full color.
From the Publisher:

He tries to pull it out, but the stocking gets stuck on his prickles -- and the fun begins.A mother hen comes by, then a noisy goose, a talkative barn cat, a playful farm dog, a mama pig and her piglets, and a pony. They all laugh at Hedgie, especially when he pretends he's wearing a new hat. But in the end, it is clever Hedgie who has the last laugh. And where is Lisa when all of this is going on? She's in the borders, getting ready for winter, until she realizes her stocking is missing and she enters the story to look for it.Jan Brett's luminous paintings of a Scandinavian farm and the forest around it are bathed in northern light, as the snow begins to fall and the story begins, in this delightfully original companion book to The Mitten. The delightful companion to Brett's bestselling "The Mitten." Annotation:
A girl's woolen stocking flies off the clothesline where it is drying and is soon found by a hedgehog named Hedgie. Curious about what the stocking could be, Hedgie sticks his nose into it and before too long the stocking is stuck on his head. All the farm animals laugh at Hedgie, especially after he tries to pretend that he's wearing a stocking on his head on purpose. Meanwhile, the girl who owns the stocking is getting dressed to go out and play. What will she do when she discovers her stocking is missing? Illustrated with color paintings.
