Sandra Cisneros
The daughter of a Mexican father and a Mexican-American mother, Cisneros has six brothers. She has worked as a teacher to high school dropouts, a poet in schools, a college recruiter, and an arts administrator. Her first novel, THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET, is a perennial seller and a basic text in multicultural literature courses.
