Author Info
Ben Stein
The epitome of the Renaissance man, Ben Stein is known to the public for his extensive acting career (he was magnificent as the nasal-voiced teacher in FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF); for hosting an intellectually challenging but nevertheless sometimes silly quiz show, WIN BEN STEIN'S MONEY; and as the author of books and articles on personal finance. He is the same Ben Stein whose name has appeared in the byline of the "Everybody's Business" column in the Business section of the Sunday New York Times. Son of the writer/economist Herbert Stein, Ben Stein has been a lawyer and a professor of law at Pepperdine University. When just out of Yale Law School, Stein worked as a poverty lawyer in New Haven. He is a political conservative who has championed Richard Nixon, for whom he wrote speeches. He is also an avid Civil War buff. In 2008, Ben Stein created a furor when he announced the release of EXPELLED: NO INTELLIGENCE ALLOWED, a documentary film on the evolution versus creationism debates. In it, Stein excoriates what he calls the "anti-religious dogmatism" which is impinging on his cherished freedom of inquiry. Even though he made the decision to appear as a judge on television's forgettable and dumb AMERICA'S MOST SMARTEST MODEL, Ben Stein is, nevertheless, a truly smart guy.
