Author Bio
Maeve Binchy
Maeve Binchy was born in Dublin and was educated at a convent school in Killiney. She earned a history degree from University College, Dublin in 1960 and taught for several years afterwards in various girls' schools in Ireland. Her first publishing experience occurred when "The Irish Times" printed a letter she wrote home from Israel where she was teaching at a kibbutz. Submitted by her father, the letter earned her ?18 and exceeded her present weekly salary of ?16. From 1969 to 1980, she lived in London and wrote humorous columns and travel articles for "The Irish Times". She has written plays and short stories, in addition to her best-selling novels.
