Blockbuster #1 "New York Times"-bestselling author Weiner returns with an irresistible story about a young woman trying to make it in Hollywood as a TV writer going against show business culture, bad behavior backstage and insider politics.
From the Publisher:
Blockbuster #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Weiner returns with an irresistible story about a young woman trying to make it in Hollywood? At twenty-three, Ruth Saunders headed west with her seventy-year-old grandma in tow, hoping to be hired as a television writer. Four years later, she's hit the jackpot when she gets The Call: the sitcom she wrote, The Next Best Thing, has gotten the green light, and Ruthie's going to be the show-runner. But her dreams of Hollywood happiness are threatened by demanding actors, number-crunching executives, an unrequited crush on a boss, and her grandmother's impending nuptials.

Set against the fascinating backdrop of Los Angeles show business culture, with an insider's ear and eye for writer's rooms, bad behavior backstage and set politics, Jennifer Weiner's new novel is a rollicking ride on the Hollywood rollercoaster and a heartfelt story about what it's like for a young woman to love, and lose, in the land where dreams come true.

Author Bio
Jennifer Weiner
While Jennifer Weiner's novels are not often accorded lengthy, respectful reviews in serious literary outlets, she is one of the world's most popular writers of contemporary women's fiction, and her books make frequent appearances on the bestseller list. "You realize you're making certain trade-offs when your first book is called GOOD IN BED and there's naked legs and cheesecake on the cover," she has said. "I wish I'd known [when I started] it's okay to be called ?a delightful beach romp.' Lots of people want to read a delightful beach romp." Weiner was born on an army base in Louisiana and moved with her family to Connecticut when she was a toddler. After earning a bachelor's degree in English from Princeton University in 1991, she embarked on a career in journalism, writing op-ed pieces and celebrity profiles, among other assignments. In the wake of a bitter romantic breakup, Weiner wrote GOOD IN BED, whose zaftig heroine, Cannie Shapiro, is humiliated when her boyfriend pens a magazine article titled "Loving a Larger Woman." Published in 2001, the novel was an immediate hit, and Weiner's subsequent books have enjoyed similar success. IN HER SHOES (2002), the tale of two squabbling sisters and their feisty grandmother, was adapted as a film starring Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine in 2004, and Weiner was also the creator of the ABC sitcom The Great State of Georgia, which aired in 2011. Many interviewers have commented that the writer is the type of funny, empathetic, and outgoing person who would make a fabulous best friend. That observation, she has quipped, makes her real best friend "roll her eyes. Hard."
