Norman Vincent Peale
Norman Vincent Peale is best known for the influential bestseller from the '50s, "The Power of Positive Thinking". Born in Ohio, Peale was educated at Ohio Wesleyan University and embarked on a career in journalism, which soon proved unsatisfying. He then enrolled in Boston University, where he studied for the ministry. In 1932 he was named minister of the Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Peale was aware of the power of the media and used it well. He appeared on television and radio, and wrote articles in magazines and newspapers, attracting a wide following and paving the way for the huge interest in self-help books to come in later decades.
