Author Bio
Christopher Pike
Christopher Pike makes his readers squirm--and that's just one of the reasons that his books so popular. Christopher has written over 35 thrillers, science fiction, and supernatural novels (including the Last Vampire series) for both adults and young adults. Before he became a writer, Christopher held many jobs--he worked in a factory, painted houses, and even programmed computers. When he sits down to write, he tries to write what he calls a "natural story"--one that doesn't feel like it's constructed. He usually sits down with a plot outline, but tries not to think of specific elements that he'll include. Although Chris's characters feel very "real," he very seldom uses any people he knows in his stories because he says that it's too distracting. Although he writes sci-fi and horror, he doesn't read much of it. As a teenager, both Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov inspired him. Now he also says that Stephen King influenced him greatly as well. His first book, SLUMBER PARTY, was published in 1985, but not before Christopher had received plenty of rejections. Though he was disappointed, he never gave up. That's why he thinks that writing-- even if it's just a little bit each day--is good practice for young aspiring writers because if they do it everyday, their talent will emerge. And Christopher believes that there's no other practical way to learn to write! A fun fact: Christopher Pike is his pen name. He was inspired to choose it after watching an episode of Star Trek.
