I wish I had the CD to review at this moment. But I will review the first single, entitled "He Is". I first heard this song on a radio station. It was smooth, uplifting and positive. The song is about all the good things her man is to her (her "baby maker", a "soul shaker", a "care taker", her "kiss giver", etc.). The way the song is sung, it seems the songstress is breathless talking about all the good things her man does for her. Then the DJ annouced it was Heather Headley, the woman who played the title role of AIDA on Broadway, and played Simba's mother in the Broadway production of "The Lion King". I know this woman can blow, but what I heard on "He Is" was wonderful!! Then several days later, I saw the video. All I can say is -- YOU GO, GIRL!! It's like Heather has been reinvented. She looks great, and as always, she sounds phenomenal. Heather makes you FEEL what she is feeling in the video. I was so hooked on the song and the video, I started checking for a future CD. Lo and behold, it is set for debut on October 8. It will be interesting to see how the rest of her album will sound. I rarely buy a CD because of one song. This will be one of those rarities ...

I purchased the CD for the first track. But I truly enjoyed each and every track, although I do have my favorites: 1 & 4. I Wish, I'm not sure if that is the titled but that's what I call it. Headley has a BOLD beautiful and ever present VOICE. She puts her everything into every note she expresses. Wonderful, Inspirational, Soul, Gospel driven tunes. Thanks HEATHER for singing what I FEEL!! Read More

The first solo album from Heather Headley, who won a 1998 Tony for her performance in Tim Rice and Elton John's AIDA, is slick, contemporary urban R&B with just a hint of her native Trinidadian background. Songs such as the sizzling album-opener "He Is" and the sultry "Always Been Your Girl" demonstrate her range, while the after-hours appeal of "Nature of a Man" is undeniable.
There's little trace of Headley's theatrical roots save in the variety of moods she's able to conjure, and she makes the crossover from stage to recording studio seem almost effortless. While she's obviously more at home with the balladry of songs such as "Fulltime," the lighthearted pop swing of "Sunday" is a charming hint of what she may be capable of on future outings.
