From the Publisher:
Piet Hoffman is an undercover operative for the Swedish as a lieutenant in the ruthless Polish mafia distributing amphetamines within Sweden's prison system. Success will mean a new identity and the freedom to start a new life. Then a botched drug deal involving Hoffman results in the cold-blooded killing of a police informant, leaving him trapped in prison, wanted dead by the police and the mafia, with only one chance to make it out alive.
Annotation:
The Swedish writing duo of Roslund & Hellstrom (they do have first names but the journalist/criminologist and ex-criminal, respectively, prefer to go by just their surnames) has cranked out several previous thrillers, but THREE SECONDS is a great place to jump into their sinister, and distinctly Scandinavian, world of cops and criminals. Here an undercover officer, Piet Hoffman, has been assigned to infiltrate the Polish mafia that is working dangerous deals within the Stockholm prison system. Three-dimensional characters that are hard to peg to one side of the moral pendulum or the other aggressively propel a complex plot, making THREE SECONDS one killer read.

Praise

"Roslund & Hellstrom pull out all the stops, peppering the story with unfathomable mysteries." - Carol Memmott 01/03/2010

"THREE SECONDS (translated by Kari Dickson) invites comparison with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. There is the same obsessive detail, the same corruption of the authorities, and even Larsson's tactic of the slow introductory chapters that suddenly shift into a higher gear. But Roslund and Hellström are very much their own men." - Barry Forshaw 11/02/2010

"The authors ratchet the suspense beautifully right up to the final, inevitable confrontation." 11/29/2010
