For two hundred and fifty years, the LeBlancs of Tidewater Virginia - landed, rich, and proud of it - have been celebrating their French Huguenot ancestry. Each year, over an extravagant lunch and in period costume dress, they relive the beginnings of the LeBlanc line, reminding everyone of their rise from meager beginnings to a position of great stature, wealth, and privilege. But this year's celebration goes horribly wrong. At the stroke of one, a deafening explosion brings down the massive plantation house columns, crushing every member of the family present. As the dust settles, all fingers point to the black sheep of the family, the youngest brother, Charles LeBlanc. Long estranged from his family and living in a makeshift cabin on a spit of land off the Chesapeake, Charley has managed to make more enemies than friends - he was dishonorably discharged from the army, and then served time in prison. Facing prison, if not execution, Charley takes off on the fugitive run of his life. With the police at his back, he makes his way through the mountains of West Virginia to find the real killer. What he didn't mean to discover were the even darker secrets about the LeBlanc blood.

Facing prison, if not execution, Charley takes off on the fugitive run of his life. With the police at his back, he makes his way through the mountains of West Virginia to find the real killer. What he didn't mean to discover were the even darker secrets about the LeBlanc blood.Set in Virginia in the 1980s, TIDEWATER BLOOD opens at the annual LeBlanc family celebration. Rich, pretentious, and proud, the LeBlancs operate a prosperous plantation and celebrate their heritage each year in grand old Southern fashion on the mansion's portico. But this year, the front of the mansion explodes and everyone on the portico is instantly killed. As the dust settles, all fingers point to embittered brother and ex-con Charles LeBlanc, who lives as a hermit outside town. When it seems he's going down on a murder rap, Charley flees to begin his own investigation. Charley must win the trust of one person after another--from his frat-boy lawyer to an old backwoods woman harboring a special hatred of the LeBlancs. Charley solves the crime moments before he faces imprisonment, but not before he learns long-hidden secrets about that illustrious LeBlanc blood. Crisp and cinematic, TIDEWATER BLOOD is a riveting and tightly constructed thriller. "A first rate, page-turning thriller."--George Garrett; "Limpid and swift-moving, with a full complement of understated surprises: an exemplary presentation of the innocent man on the run for readers who want more texture then they can find in THE FUGITIVE."--Kirkus Reviews. "This is a gripping read."--Library Journal. A MYSTERY GUILD SELECTION.
Annotation:
John LeBlanc, head of the extensive LeBlanc clan, is murdered along with his wife and son during a family reunion at Bellerive mansion. The family and authorities immediately suspect black sheep Charley LeBlanc, and an all-out manhunt ensues. Only there isn't a scrap of evidence that Charley was anywhere near the scene of the crime.
