When I received this backpack, it arrived in good shape and also in a relatively quick amount of time. I just used the backpack this past weekend on a hiking trip and it felt really comfortable. I've yet to use it with a laptop but I believe based on this past weekend's experience with the bag that the padding on the pack would be thick enough to allow for me to wear the backpack without feeling the laptop. I also used the Bungee Utility Pouch to help hold my friend's jacket on the hiking trip and it worked quite well as the jacket fit snugly inside the pouch.
I purchased this backpack recently, when I get it was very nice. But after a couple of weeks the bag became valueless. The bag handle is gone, the bag is torn all over around. In my opinion a bag should last at least a couple of months, in my case it didn't last even a month. My laptop about 5lb,not that much heavy. So guys save the $$, I don't recommend at all to go with this bag.
We purchase two of the same bag, one in blue and one in black/red.
Our intended usage is for day pack for day-hiking trip. We used it on the recent hike at Torrey Pine and it was exactly what we needed.
It has three compartment with a front side quick opening. We use that for binoculars/camera for quick access which was very handy. It has two pouches for two water bottles and a small pouch for MP3 players.
We paid $35 + tax for the bag. You can't beat a better deal
