Customer Reviews of Toshiba 55UL605U 55" Ultra Thin LED HDTV 1080p 120Hz
Hooked it up right out of the box, initial set was easy and has an excellent picture.
Don't buy this product. I have wasted my money and time to set this up. Adapter doesn't work at all. I have called customer service several times and each time the call was answered by someone in Japan. Each time they said someone will call within an hour to resolve the issue, but no one never returned my call as of now. Useless customer service and you will be stuck with this usual thing so I have decided to not to buy Toshiba products anymore in my life.
Great 55" Edge-Lit TV3/9/2011
I think this is a very good value for a 55"-class edge-lit LCD TV. The default "movie" mode is pretty close to what I want. So far I've only tested it with the built-in Netflix support, but that has worked very well. I use it via a wired ethernet connection. You have to give it 30 seconds or so from power-up for it to get an IP address - so 'widgets' is not available instantly from power on. I assume other net-enabled sets will have this issue. Despite being 'only' edge-lit, the set produces very deep blacks. The screen is glossy, yet has some sort of filter that does a very good job of absorbing ambient light. You can see dim reflections in a daytime room but they aren't bothersome. There is some tonality shift in far off-angle viewing. Who cares. It looks GREAT straight on, and at 55" where are you going to sit off-angle unless your room is huge. If you give the set a black signal in a dark room you will see some minor light leaking in the corners and some very faint 'clouds'. You MIGHT also see the light leaks during very dark scenes when there are letter box bars, since they are absolutely black. Otherwise you will never notice it. Forget it. The picture is great. The speakers are truly bad. But a set like this is meant to be put through a sound system. The remote is pretty good. I would have preferred backlit buttons over glow-in-the-dark buttons. Overall, this is a great TV for the money.
Good but not perfect3/4/2011
For $1100ish it's hard to beat this TV. HD pictures are crisp and clear. Hookup was a snap and I've no HDMI compatibility issues. The internal speaks are garbage but I knew that going in - I already have a home theater receiver and sound system so it didn't matter to me. There are 2 things that I've run into that are annoying: 1) there is a lighting effect present in each corner of the TV that can be seen when the screen is black or has a dark picture; 2) the auto dimming doesn't seem to work very well - this is evidenced by movies having a kind of "soap opera" look to them (it's hard to describe, but you'll definitely notice it). Still for the price I'm a happy camper.
