Piece of Junk...and support worse1/9/2013
I bought this laptop for my sister who needed more capabilities for her grad school curriculum. When we first got it, the battery rattled. I mean, just tilting the laptop gently back and forth and I could hear it clunking away like the paper folding machine outside my buddy's office at work. So Toshiba (whose support is awful, mind you), wanted to replace the battery. I explained to them that it was NOT the issue. I told them it did not fit into the bezel that held the battery. So they sent a new battery anyway....didn't fix it of course. So we shipped it to them (which we had to pay for), and they sent it back better than it was, but still not fixed completely. I gave up on that one... Then recently, the num pad keys started sticking. it was a MECHANICAL problem with the keypad itself . They would not bounce back right away after you pressed them. My sister calls Toshiba support (did I mention that they are terrible?), and the guy proceeds to have her look into BIOS settings. We explained again that it was a PHYSICAL issue, it has nothing to do with the BIOS. Again, we had to ship it to them and pay the cost of the shipping. Long story short....don't buy a Toshiba. Their manufacturing quality has really gone to the dogs (no offense to dogs). This thing has been like the '72 Pinto of computers. And their support is a real "Mickey Mouse Operation". Let this be an insult to Mickey Mouse....Sometimes you gotta know when to hang it up......Jim Scott
Great Price for I7 processor Laptop4/18/2012
Great Price for a laptop with an I7 quad core processor, 4 GB RAM, and 500 GB hard drive. I purchased for my college bound son. He has been using it for a little more than a week now and is very happy with the performance. Battery life is a little less than my Dell Inspiron. Very good deal!
I have had this laptop for a few days, so I cannot comment on longevity. So far I am really digging this laptop. I bought this one to replace a very cheap Acer Aspire that I had for 3 years and the battery finally gave out. Initial set up was very fast. I got rid of most of the bloatware. I have seen a lot of people complain about bloatware on just about every computer review on Amazon. It sucks, but get used to it most computers come preloaded with it. It really didn't take that much time to uninstall it all. It starts up very quickly, and the battery life is awesome on the "eco" setting. It's about 5.5 hours or so. I think the balanced setting will get you 3. The display is beautiful and clear. I am able to play a few Steam games like Portal 2 and Civilization 5. You won't be playing anything super intense like Left for Dead, but I'm still happy to be able to play a few recent games. I set up Windows Live Mesh with my desktop computer so I can access it from anywhere remotely, that works really well.
