Why AlignTM technology is better?
AlignTM technology is announced by Atheros Communications, Inc, which is a leading developer of advanced semiconductor system solutions for wireless and wired communications. Based on the IEEE draft 802.11n 1-stream specification, the single-stream feature enables a new class of Wi-Fi® devices that deliver performance enhancements over the existing 802.11g technology, at comparable price points. Align solutions are also forward compatible to higher-performance, multi-stream, MIMO-based 802.11n - providing the optimal upgrade path for value-class WLAN products. Consumers who move from 802.11g to products based on Align 1-stream technology will experience enhanced performance in their home networks.

great product for that extra wireless signal level
Value and performance6/5/2012
Straightforward installation Replaced Linksys WMP54GS v1.1 PCI card that continually dropped packets on Windows 7 (latest official drivers were from 2003, for Windows XP)
No significant increase in signal5/11/2012
Adapter works fine, but in comparison with my other 3 USB adapters and built-in ones, it did not provide much of a signal level that I didn't already have. I tried several angles of the antenna with the adapter on the USB extension cord supplied and in a number of hotspot locations. I went to the extreme distances from the access points and it held the connection slightly further than my other adapters, but not sure it is worth the increased price and bulky size.
