Customer Reviews of TRENDnet TEW-423PI 54Mbps Wireless G PCI Adapter
excellant product. I am happy with it
Nice features-the interface you want and output po10/14/2011
This is a nice device! With an output of 13dBm (20mW) combined with an antenna that has a 2dBi gain, you have Effective Isotropic Output Power (equivalent) of... 32mW ! This is equal to a 'Ciscompany' or 'LinkSister' router. Since it it is not just another USB adapter - true IDE interface, this is a really good piece of hardware to add to your system. The only think better would be if it had a Realtek chipset!
Good buy for the price9/8/2011
The installation and setup was easy and works great on older HP Pavilion Windows XP SP3 desktop that is used occasionally by my grandson here in my home office. Sometimes loses network connection when PC awakes from sleep mode and have to reconnect via desktop icon otherwise works good.
This adapter is very inconsistent. Setup was easy enough, and it works well when it works. But it drops connection more than occasionally, and sometimes will not connect at boot-up, so have to reboot (I haven't been able to force it to connect manually if it doesn't on boot-up). This is on a Win XP machine. There are so many wireless cards out there at similar price points, I'd have to recommend that you stay away from this one.
Works great easy install12/19/2010
After struggling with a DLink product (that I eventually just threw away) I was pleasantly surprised to just find this JUST WORKED. Follow the quick install instructions and you will be up and running in no time. (My install OS was XP sp3). Local Vendors wanted double the cost of this device so it was win-win.
Great Price and Works Great12/11/2010
I purchased this item and installed it in my Dell desktop. It installed very easily and worked immediately. My Router is in the basement and this computer was in a bedroom on the second floor and it works flawlessly. I would recommend this wireless card.
Good Value, Good Preformance12/9/2010
Arrived very quickly, followed the instructions and it was up in running in 10 minutes. Bought two of them and they both work great.
This NIC is junk. Tried every combo of new drivers, old drivers, changing settings, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. and I can't get it to keep a connection longer than 15 minutes on my wife's win 7 machine.
Cheap But Effective12/7/2010
Product installed and set up easily and functions well. Just be sure to follow the directions and install the software before installing the hardware, a bit counter intuitive, but it will not work the other way.
Best value and good performance11/15/2010
I have been using this product almost a month now. It is very easy to install and configure. I used other products in past and I found this product very compatible and good performance. I am very satisfy.
Note for Win7 64 bit Users11/9/2010
The product works great. I have had it for about 3 weeks and it hasn't given me any problems once I finished setting it up. NOTE TO WINDOWS 7 64-BIT USERS: After you finish installing the drivers and the device, make sure you DISABLE the TRENDnet wireless utility from running at startup. You can use a free program called CCleaner for that. I experienced conflicts between their wireless utility and the one Win7 has. It wouldn't identify to my network, and it would not reconnect on restart of the computer. It was very, very frustrating. After I disabled their utility, there were no more problems and it has been working flawlessly ever since.
A good wireless card10/29/2010
It would have been a quick installation to replace my old 802.11b Trendnet card if I had remembered to change the MAC address in my router's access list (in addition to WEP, I had set up access list in my router). The new card showed 3 signal bars while my old card only showed 1 bar on Windows 7. In a nutshell, I have no regret on my purchase.
Well, I've had just as bad an experience with the TRENDnet TEW-643PI--doesn't work reliably. It dropped my connection to a new wireless-N router 7 times in under 20 minutes (from 30 feet away). 3 strikes now, and I'm never buying a TRENDnet device again--they just don't work well.
Doesn't work well, and you may get a lemon.9/2/2010
I ordered this and was unable to successfully connect to three types of networks: ad hoc, unsecure wireless, and secured wireless. If I did manage to get it to connect, the speed was so slow that almost every packet timed out. I sent it into to TRENDnet, who was very understanding, and they had me send it in (at my own shipping cost), for a replacement. They sent me a new one and it worked with my phone ad hoc network. However, I just noticed that it doesn't work with my secured wireless router from more than 10 feet away. If it's near the card, I'm fine, but any farther than 10 feet away and I start to get dropped packets and error pages in my browser. I am now past the 30 day return policies and can't get a refund. Instead, I went and purchased the TRENDnet TEW-643PI, because it was cheaper than all the other competitors, but not the bottom-of-the-barrel wireless card and that card is working fine all the way across my house. My advice: don't buy this card, unless you have a wireless router right next to the computer (but then why do you need the wireless card in the first place?).
TEW-423PI wireless adapter4/25/2009
This is a cheap and easy to install wireless adapter. However, this adapter DOES NOT support WPA encryption and also the driver is conflicting with the microsoft kill process. Their tech support doesn't really know how to help you to resolve this tech issue. Nonetheless, it worked pretty well once I ignored the issue of kill process and used WEP encryption.
trendnet wireless g pci adapter (tew-423pi)3/2/2009
the wireless card works flawlessly with my linksys b/g wireless router. i have a large home with the router downstairs and the wireless pci card upstairs. it maintains a 100% link signal and 54mbps connection at all times. it must have pretty good range as i can view 14 different wireless networks from my neighbors. i have used the card for a month now with no problems. it was the best price i could find and i am very happy with it. o/s = windows xp
Very poor product!6/17/2008
It took three calls to the Trendnet technical support center before I finally pulled it out of my computer and scrapped it...it never worked. The support center was never able pinpointed the issue. I wound up buying a Netgear desktop card that works flawlessly. Stay away from Trendnet!!
Problems with vista, works perfect with XP1/31/2008
I had problems with vista. It would connect, but couldnt get any traffic through it. Vista Help was no Help. Installed XP Pro on the computer and works Perfect. Great reception 3 rooms away.
EASY AND EFFICIENT12/16/2007
SUPER EASY TO INSTALL AND SET UP, TOOK ALL OF ABOUT 5 MINUTES. WOULD BUY AGAIN AND THIS WAS THE SECOND I'VE BOUGHT (2 DIFFERENT COMPUTERS)
The good: Very easy to install with no problems, excellent reception, works very well. Minor annoyance: Software can be a bit confusing at first. Once I configured it for my network however, it has worked flawlessly.
well i just bought an xps desktop but i did not want to get rid of my old dimension so what i did was i bought this wireless pci card for dirt cheap and boy was it worth it! Its sitting in my old desktop on the other side of my house 2300square feet with 4 out of 5 bars full for those who need one mine is in a 5 year old dell dimension 2350 and its still super fast!!!!!!!! thanks buy.com shipping was very fast im so happy ill never shop retail again-
Not a good experience6/10/2007
This is the worse wireless card ever. I bought this card because of its price and after my disappointment I guess now I know why it has such a lower price. The card connects after I boot up the computer but after 10 to 15 minutes the connection goes down, the weird thing is that windows shows the wireless connection as connected but there is absolutely no link to my router. I tried this card with another system with exactly the same results. TrendNet tech support is also the worse I have ever encountered. Their networking knowledge is very minimal and they are very rude and unprofessional. They were not able to solve my problem and promised to call me several times and they never did. I really wanted a card replacement but I never really got that far with their tech support. Bad product and tech support please invest on something better so you do not spend hours of your time trying to fix it and deal with ignorant people.
A great buy!6/5/2007
Of the four different brands that I have used in various computers, this was the easiest to get on-line. I get 100 percent signal from anywhere in my house...even through four walls.
Very nice wireless G adapter2/24/2007
Simply install the configuration utility that comes in the CD before installing the PCI card in your desktop and you are done. This card works really nice, no complicated configurations or driver problems, well done by TrendNet!
Quirky. Recommended if your situation is ideal9/13/2006
I bought this on price figuring that WiFi cards should be a commodity item these days. After a few days I did get it working consistently, but I had the same experience as another reviewer who said it had trouble picking up a signal where his laptop worked fine. Here is some more detail and what worked for me in setting it up. My access point is a Belkin b/g router. I did not expect any trouble with signal strength since my laptop shows (albeit using 802.11b) that I have three neighbors, none closer than 400', all with a "bar or two" of signal strength. All I needed to do was reach upstairs to the other side of the house. I was surprised that the Trendnet card reported none of my neighbors in the "available networks" and very low signal for my own access point. Worse, it seemed to periodically try to reassociate with a neighbors network even though it wouldn't list it. I failed to find a way to configure it to only associate with my own network, but I set it to only use "infrastructure" nodes. I moved the access point to the same room where I have an ethernet jack on another wall. That helped a little. Then I made two changes that finally gave me a reliable connection (sorry I didn't do a scientific investigation): (1) I repositioned the access point a foot or so still closer (to the other side of the cabinet it's in), and (2) I switched off "use Windows to configure this connection" and used the Trendnet property pages exclusively. The situation would probably have been a lot better if the computer faced the access point, for example on an inside wall with the access point in the next room.
Using this in a 5 year-old Dell running Windows 2K. Installation was smooth, and reception is very good. My router is a standard Linksys 802.11g unit in a basement, and the computer with this card is on the second floor. I don't get 54Mbs, but I get 20 or 30Mbs, which is faster than my broadband internet connection - so I'm happy.
Great Product for the Price6/15/2006
This product works great and was very easy to install and works excellent I would reccomend it to anyone.
Easy to install, low priced, but poor wireless ran6/5/2006
This card was easy to install, and the price was reasonable, but could never pick up the signal from my wireless router. I tried re-positioning the antenna a few time with no luck. My notebook computer pick's up the routers signal with no problem in the same location. Possibly an external antenna would help this card.
After installing this adapter I experienced system freeze-ups after the computer went into sleep mode. A hard shut down was the only recovery. I removed the adapter and all the software that came with it and went back to my wired connection. No problems thereafter. The software was not Microsoft certified and speaks to the value of certification.
It works, best value.3/14/2006
I got this so I wouldn't have to wire from the basement. Popped it in, installed drivers and setup the connection. It works especially considering the signal has to go through several walls and a large distance. Low signal in that case is normal, but I haven't seen it drop the signal. Used with a Linksys wireless router.
Had it for about 4 months and everything is great!!!
Great card and dirt cheap12/16/2005
This wirless card is the best card ever for dirt cheap pricing. I`m always getting a 93%+ connection signal. I highly reccomend this card for Windows XP Home, Media Center, and Professianal.
Got two of these cards for my home. They work without any problems. You must set up your router to connect to these cards with all the security settings. Highly recommended for the price.
I was using a netgear 802.11b USB adapter, before upgrading to this one. Set up was very easy and I get >70% signal with antennae being hid behind computer and through two walls. Very satisifed with product.
Solid Performance & Dirt Cheap!9/8/2005
The TRENDnet TEW-423PI can be had for a song - without any sacrifice in performace or reliability. I installed this card on a PC running Win98/SE. I did have to manually link the card to TCP/IP in Control Panel/Network. Even though there already was an existing TCP/IP entry for the card, it wouldn't work until I added a new entry. One way to be sure the card is active on the network is to run winipcfg (on Win98/SE) and see if the card is listed in the drop-down menu. Other than this, the installation went smoothly. Installation is probably much simpler on WinXP. The card is located 45ft from the router and I consistently get a rock solid 98%+ signal. A fantastic value!
Works great. Great value!6/24/2005
Other sites had positive reviews of this card. I followed the advice of others and downloaded the newest driver from trendware.com first before installing the card. The driver worked flawlessly and the signal strength shows at 87%. A previous USB device barely got 20-30% in the same location. For this price, money well spent!
Trendnet PCI Wireless G6/23/2005
In the past I have bought a lot of trendnet wireless cards and I have never had a problem with them. This card had a little problem. On a computer with Windows XP home I installed the drivers and then installed the card. The system recognized the hardware but when it started to run the utility it restarted my computer. It did this every time. Windows would boot up and be on for 10 seconds and then it would restart when the utility ran. So I took the card out and put it in another machine with Windows XP Pro and no problems. Solid as a rock. Great signal strength too.
I have both Linksys and Netgear products in my home network, and I must say that this product performs just as well, if not more robust, and at a fraction of the cost. Will definitely check out trendware's other products.
Worked fine for about a week.9/2/2004
Worked fine for about a week. Could not get this set up using windows xp to configure this. Had to use the software provided with the card which doesn't support WPA, only WEP. Tech support through email was only moderately helpful, lengthy response times with basic answers (isn't most tech support like this anyway). When working it was great, had it set about 60 feet away from Netgear router, then quit working. Going with D-Link after this.
