Customer Reviews of TRENDnet TEW-643PI Wireless N PCI Adapter
Not so great for range or speed7/7/2012
I bought this as a improvement over a USB dongle I was using. I thought it would provide a better connection considering it had a duel antenna system. I was certainly wrong. I have tried upgrading drivers and adjusting the antenna's. Still getting 65mbps connect speeds even though my other laptops and devices get around 130mbps. I finally figured out it must be an issue with draft N vs N standard on my router. Somehow they do not work well together. I would not recommend this unless you have a G mode router or older one.
I was skeptical but with the move of my computer out of the room with the router in it, I wanted to try wireless. I read all kinds of reviews on all kinds of sights and after about 5 hours of looking I bought this unit. I got it today and been using it for only an hour but so far so good. No problems at all so far. This is the only wireless adapter I found online that actually is for the use of windows 7 at this time. I didn't want to chance something else especially since the reviews were terrible on even the top 2 brands. It intalled very easily and on downloads I can't tell the difference without the cord but my uploads took a hit. I pay for (up to)18meg service and on speedtest.net I got well over 17megs all 3 tests amazingly but my uploads got cut in a little more that half. I run windows 7 64 bit on a custom do-it-yourself gaming rig and my router is about 15 feet away through 1wall and I get perfect reception. I hope this helps because I'm very happy with it. P.S. I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong and that ended up being an understatement.
It's a piece of crap11/21/2010
Could not get a connection. Multiple emails with TrendNet tech support. No success. Bought a Linksys - was up and running in a few minutes. Never again!
I am not a big tech-geek. I purchased this item to gift my sister to have internet connected wirelessly to her desktop PC. She found out that configuration was very easy and the router worked fine. She was very happy......and so am I.
A 150Mbps Adapter9/20/2010
1. Despite the somewhat misleading sales write-up, this adapter does not provide for the 40MHz download bandwidth necessary for 300Mbps downloads. 2. The enclosed installation CD does not contain Windows 7 drivers, neither 32bit nor 64bit. A internet download from TRENDNET.COM provided an updated set of drivers. For some reason though, the utility provided with the update package does not seem to be as stable/compatible as that provided on the installation CD (GO figure!) SO if you are looking for N 300 Mbps performance and have invested in the other infrastructure components (router, etc) this is not the adapter for your desktop/home theater.
A Bit Disappointed9/8/2010
Thought this card would connect with my Trendnet N Rounter at 300 Mbps like my laptop does. Nope, just at 150 Mbps (excellent connection just 3 feet apart). Running XP Prof 32 bit. Initially the card would just stop working w/no errors indicated. Unloaded the Trendnet program/drivers,and reloaded just the drivers off the CD & let Windows do the network setup and connection management. A bit more stable, but, still tends to not want to connect with no error messages causing a need to boot again. Good news is Windows Update did recognize this RealTek 8190 powered card and updated the driver, presumably with the latest version, dated 3/7/2010. Seems fairly stable now (has hung once during boot). Still don't understand why only the 150 Mbps download speed...We'll see, I may go back to a wired connection.
My TRENDnet was purchased at a great price and works terrific. Super fast delivery.
TRENDnet TEW-643PI Wireless N PCI Adapter8/25/2010
Installed in a 2001 model desktop, easy installation, and installed with windows, & used the install CD for drivers as other reviewers had suggested. Works great on my wireless g network Dlink router, and costed $22. Very pleased with!
Works great with W7 not so great on XP8/25/2010
I purchased this unit intending to upgrade my wife's Dell Windows XP machine. After several attempts to get the drivers to install without success, I thought maybe the card was defective. I moved over to my Dell Home Theater PC running Windows 7 to verify that card was actually defective before I returned it. To my surprise, the card installed instantly and without 1 single problem. It worked perfectly the first time and with a signal strength of 100%, vast improvement over the 75% on the USB unit. It worked so well I decided to keep the card and just use it in the Windows 7 PC. Very happy with the performance.
Excellent Signal Strength5/28/2009
For the price, I was surprised how well this card worked. I will seriously consider TRENDnet for future networking needs.
Using a G router and the card supplied drivers. I installed the drivers and then the card. The installation was glitch free. I experimented with the XP network management software, believing it would be a cleaner interface, but I actually gave control back to the card's drivers before I was through; I think the card's drivers offer a more straightforward interface. Inexpensive, great range, ready to go N when I am. I own 2, and this is my choice if I need another.
Excellent Wireless N PCI Adapter3/28/2009
This upgraded the downstairs desktop computer to wireless N, which has made a huge difference over the old wireless G! The TRENDnet TEW-643PI connects faster, stronger, and more reliably. This is in a year 2000 computer with an ancient 900MHz Athlon processor, which is amazing! The one thing I have to strongly caution is to never, never download drivers for this wireless card from Windows Update! The TEW-643PI uses a Realtek chipset that's commonly found in other network cards. Windows Update mistakes the TEW-643PI for one of those other cards, and then offers to install an inappropriate Realtek driver for this card. To save on major headaches, just tell it no; and then tell it to never show those particular updates ever again. ;) Anyway, this is an excellent wireless N card, and is a great value for the performance you get. I highly recommend it!
Strong signal, easy install2/9/2009
Installed drivers, plugged it in, and it just works. Very strong signal to my MIMO netgear router through 2 floors in brick building, urban setting... this thing picks up routers 6 doors down with enough signal to connect. Great deal and highly recommended.
Great value well worth the money.
It Simply Works!12/23/2008
Just followed the instructions (For Vista, install the software first, then install the card) and everything worked just fine. No problems entering the WEP key. My router is in another room on the same floor of my house and I get an "excellent" signal every time.
Great card for any price and great price12/18/2008
I'm suprised to say I agree with the other reviews. I have a linsys wrt310n router and this picks up the signal perfectly. Easy to set up. It says to install the software first and that works but I found no problems when I installed the card first. I bought a second one for my wife's computer I was so impressed. She's really happy we can get rid of the cables that kept trying to trip her!
Best Wireless Adapter Found12/18/2008
Works better than all the other ones I've tried
Works great. Key is not to let the trendnet software to handle the wireless management. Do not follow the instruction manual. Let the window to recognize the hardware and you have to direct them to the driver supplied in the CD or downloaded the latest version in the internet
It's easy to install and setup and works great! I have not tested on a N network yet but the speed and signal strength is good even with my current g router. I also like the shape of the card as it gives more room for air flow within the case (I have installed this right under the video card and it doesn't block the fan). Overall I am very happy with my choice.
It's a nice card, easy to install and works great! I have not used it on N-network yet, so I can not comment on that aspect, but works fast on g netwrok as well. I like the shape of the board as it provides more room for the video card cooling fan just above it. The manual does say to install the provided software before installing the card and its dirver, but this is not necessary. you can just install the driver from the CD. I didn't like the software and went back to windows wirless manager.
TRENDnet TEW-643PI Wireless N PCI Adapter11/24/2008
Incredibly easy to install & it works perfect. The software is very user friendly & it detects all the wireless signals in your area. I would most definitely recommend this product.
An excellent device11/16/2008
I bought three of these (not at the same time) cards and install onto each of the computer inside the house. It works like a charm---doesn't matter where the location of the computer, it gets the signal. Easy to install. Highly recommanded.
