Scary Memories

by Kelley on 1/2/2013

I remember this movie (made for TV) in the 70's. EVERYBODY watched it and it was the talk at school the next day. I had to sleep with the lights on the night I watched this movie back then. We had a native statue with a SPEAR in it's hand in our house too, which really made us scared. Great stories - all 3.

Product Overview

Legendary producer/director Dan Curtis (Dark Shadows, The Night Stalker) teams up with writers Richard Matheson (I Am Legend, The Twilight Zone) and William F. Nolan (Logan's Run, Burnt Offerings) to present three tales of horrific suspense in Trilogy of Terror. This made-for-television anthology showcases the tremendous acting talent of Karen Black (Five Easy Pieces, The Day of the Locust), who plays four distinct roles.

In Julie, an aggressive college student seduces and ultimately blackmails his seemingly shy English professor.

In Millicent and Therese, two polar-opposite sisters become increasingly hell-bent on the undoing of one another.

And in Amelia, a woman falls prey to a murderous Zuni fetish doll.

Review Popular horror telefilm has Karen Black playing four roles in the three stories here: a student/teacher relationship gone wrong, two warring sisters with a deadly voodoo twist and a woman terrorized by a mini (yet deadly) Zuni fetish doll. What was considered quite suspenseful in it's day mostly comes across as silly, predictable and harmless; though the final tale with the fetish doll does manage to grasp your attention. Black isn't too bad, she's just stuck in some fairly average stories. Followed by a sequel.

Review Previously impossible to find on video, 1975's Trilogy Of Terror has developed a reputation as one of the few scary movies ever to be made for television. Composed of three adaptations of Richard Matheson stories, each starring Karen Black as a woman with problems, Trilogy Of Terror at first doesn't seem to have aged particularly well, the first two installments relying on hoary twist endings that would probably shame the producers of Tales From The Darkside. It's the final installment, however, that makes Trilogy memorable.
