Great adapter cable.12/5/2012
I bought this cable for additional internal sata ports, but changed my mind. I did try them and they worked fine, I just changed my mind for now.
Its a Great Cable12/18/2010
Bought this sata to e-sata cable to connect my external hard drive to the motherboard sata port in my computer. works great.
Short cord, but that's out of necessity to avoid signal loss. (Because of the direct SATA port to eSATA connection, it has the same 1 meter limitation as SATA, as compared to an eSATA connection from a Host Bus Adapter which would allow 2 meters.) This cable works flawlessly with my external eSATA drive (SATA 300.) With no eSATA ports on my Vista x64 system, I connected the cable directly to a MainBoard SATA port & snaked the cable out through my HP's media drive door to connect it to my external eSATA drive. I use the nifty utility "HotSwap!" to detect as well as to disconnect/spin-down my drive. (Requires any software referencing the drive to be closed before disconnecting, including SMART temperature monitors & Explorer windows, etc.) The drive, while connected & externally powered, behaves just as any internal SATA 300 drive in my system, including cache settings. Much faster than USB2 and my drive isn't frequently spinning up and down as it does with USB2. (I needed a small cooling fan to supplement the external drive enclosure's passive heat dissipation, since the always-on status can raise drive temperature.)
