Might be useful except for two flaws5/20/2011
The idea behind this surge supressor is fine. But the execution is lacking. Problem one: the ethernet jacks are too close to each other and too tight to make them useable. Solution: don't use the ethernet surge protection. Problem two: when the green outlet is connected to my Iomega eGo external harddrive and the desktop computer is plugged into the master, every time the computer goes into standby mode it causes the external harddrive to try to download its contents to the computer. The computer comes out of standby very quickly and the monitor screen asks what I want to do with the contents of the external harddrive. Bottom line:no standby possible for desktop. But for other devices plugged into the green outlets everything seems ok. So depending upon what you want to use with the device it might be ok. One more reason to always purchase electronics from a reputable merchant like buy.com.
