Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge. But his first case is a little more than he bargained for. It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range - what looks like "trunk music," a Mafia hit.But the LAPD''s organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex - and much more personal. A rekindled romance with an old girlfriend opens new perspectives on the murder, and he begins to glimpse a shocking triangle of corruption and collusion. Yanked off the case, Harry himself is soon the one being investigated. But only a bullet can stop Harry when he''s searching for the truth . . .
Detective Bosch of LAPD Homicide suspects organized crime is behind the dead body found in his trunk, but he must dig up answers on his own in this gritty, noir mystery.
Author Bio
Michael Connelly
Michael Connelly's best-known novels feature Hieronymous "Harry" Bosch, an LAPD detective who is relentless in his efforts to solve cold cases. Connelly feels that crime fiction performs an important function. "The world has become more confusing. It has also become more dangerous," he has said. "These books tend to follow a standard in which justice prevails. This is reassuring. I think we all look at the world and see that bad people often get away. [But] that doesn't happen too often in fiction." Connelly, who was born in Philadelphia, decided to become a crime writer after reading the works of Raymond Chandler as a teen. He earned a degree in journalism, and after being short-listed for a Pulitzer, for a 1986 story about a plane crash that he had written for a Florida newspaper, he was offered a job at the Los Angeles Times, where he remained until the mid-1990s. His first Harry Bosch novel, THE BLACK ECHO (1992), garnered an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America, an organization that Connelly would later head. Since that first outing, Bosch has been the focus of several other books, most of them bestsellers. Connelly's other series protagonist is Mickey Haller, a Los Angeles defense attorney who works out of his car. The character was introduced in THE LINCOLN LAWYER (2005), which was made into a film starring Matthew McConaughey in 2011. That did not mark the first time Connelly's work had been adapted for the big screen, however; in 2002 BLOOD WORK, a 1998 non-series novel about an ex-FBI agent who receives a heart transplant, had been filmed by Clint Eastwood. Besides seeing his characters brought to life by Hollywood, Connelly has also had the distinction of portraying himself in an episode of the ABC-TV series CASTLE.

Literary Review
"Characters and situations which generate a sullen, sexual heat. Powerful atmospherics. Irresistible from page one." - Philip Oakes February 1997

Los Angeles Times Book Review
"In a relatively short period of time, Connelly, a prize-winning journalist who was a police reporter for this paper, has established himself as one of the new masters of the crime genre. 'Trunk Music' is his sixth novel, the fifth in a series about LAPD homicide detective Hieronymous 'Harry' Bosch....The Bosch books are a clever combination of police procedural and the literary equivalent of film noir, with Connelly's experience on the crime beat helping to create an ultra-realistic, dark and shadowy system of justice, mired in corruption and politics, in which the disenfrachised, disenchanted Bosch tries vainly to light one little candle." - Dick Lochte 04/20/1997
