Arnold Lobel
Arnold Lobel is widely recognized for his "I-Can-Read" books for beginning readers. In addition to these works, he also illustrated and wrote many picture books such as HOW THE ROOSTER SAVED THE DAY, created with his then wife, Anita Lobel. Lobel won the Caldecott Medal in 1981 for his book FABLES. He will be remembered particularly for his books featuring amphibian pals Frog and Toad, such as FROG AND TOAD ARE FRIENDS and DAYS WITH FROG AND TOAD.

Born and raised in New York City, children's poet and author Jack Prelutsky had a variety of interests and careers, such as opera and carpentry, before turning to children's poetry in his early 20s. Well known for his numerous books and collections, including THE RANDOM HOUSE BOOK OF POETRY FOR CHILDREN, IT'S RAINING PIGS AND NOODLES, and READ-ALOUD RHYMES FOR THE VERY YOUNG, he was named the first Children's Poet Laureate in 2006 by the Poetry Foundation.
