THE USUAL GARTH.....FANTASTIC!!!

by Sam on 3/18/2008

This set is definitely the best of Garth and is for the casual listener and for the seasoned fan as well. It's nice to have all the best of hits ready and handy in a two CD compilation. Add to this convenience, the bonus DVD and the new songs, and you have an unbeatable bargain!!! Honestly, the new hit "More Than a Memory" is worth buying it alone!!! This new song is the best, most emotional song to come out of Garth's studio in some time.......definitely a winner, the new songs, the CD's, and the DVD, all from a typical Garth Brooks low-priced, high valued offering!!! For a period in the early 1990s, Garth Brooks was not only the biggest star in country music, he was one of the biggest stars in music, period. An unassuming Oklahoman who fused the blue-collar ethic of new traditionalist country with an unapologetic pop side that drew on his love of 1970s rockers like Kiss and Billy Joel, Garth Brooks fundamentally changed the sound of mainstream country music in much the same way that Hank Williams had in the 1940s and Patsy Cline had in the 1950s. THE ULTIMATE HITS, a three-disc collection that is the first comprehensive career overview for Brooks, contains all of his most beloved songs in remastered sound, plus four brand-new songs and a bonus DVD containing all of Brooks's music videos.
Artist Overview
Garth Brooks is a pivotal figure in the history of country music, no matter how much some country purists would like to deny it. With his commercially savvy fusion of post-Merle Haggard country, honky tonk, post-folk-rock, sensitive singer/songwriter sensibilities, and '70s arena rock dramatics, Brooks brought country music to a new audience in the '90s, namely, a mass audience. Before Brooks, it was inconceivable for a country artist to go multi-platinum. He shattered that barrier in 1991, when his second album, No Fences, began its chart domination; it eventually sold a record-shattering 13 million copies. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
