My kids love it!

by Sydney on 5/13/2009

I am a mother of 2 with a personal interest in physics. This series has exploded an interest in my small children, ages 4 and 6, with respect to the universe and celestial phenomenon. They don't "get" a lot of it, but the series is so visually stunning that they are still entertained, even when the narrator is explaining a concept that the kids have no idea what they are talking about. The shows do a good job of pairing a narration of an unusual or complicated theory with visual examples to help the understanding of the concept. My kindergartner understands some of the basic principles now, like how gravity works, orbits, and basic ideas of what different types of celestial bodies are, like the difference between planets, stars, galaxies, supernova etc. It is a must have if you want to try and spark young ones with interests other than video games and cartoons. The best part is I was probably more entertained than he was. Read More

Product Overview

The unfathomable power of the universe explodes to life in and out-of-this-world set from The History Channel. Planets, stars, and galaxies are revealed in a whole new light: not as tiny dots in a telescope, but as if you were right there. Incredibly realistic computer reconstructions, sophisticated animations, and the most current scientific intelligence combine to show the hottest events in the sky, from colliding celestial bodies to collapsing suns.

Closer to home, The Universe Collector's Set delves into how our own Earth developed from an inferno of molten rock to the beautiful orb that sustains us today. Experience firsthand the cataclysmic events that set the stage for life, and visit sites where Earth's birthing process is still in evidence. Relive astronomical triumphs, from the first crude lenses that were able to magnify celestial bodies to probes that blaze to the most distant planets. It's a journey of cosmic discovery, amazement, and adventure like nothing on Earth.

Join The History Channel on a stunning exploration of Earth, our solar system, and faraway galaxies on 14 DVDs.

Includes The Universe: The Complete Season One, The Universe: The Complete Season Two, The Planets, and How the Earth Was Made!
