Annotation:
Dr. Kay Scarpetta explores cyberspace to find a killer bold enough to send her photos of the dead victim via the Internet. Not only does the murderer seem to strike in Europe and the United States, but the killer also contaminates the victims with deadly viruses, leaving a potentially lethal surprise for the forensic investigator.
Author Bio
Patricia Daniels Cornwell
Patricia Cornwell is no stranger to the morgue. In researching her often violent suspense novels, she ensures authenticity in her work by frequently accompanying medical examiners as they perform autopsies. Also contributing to the accuracy of her novels is her experience working as a crime reporter, and as a records auditor in the Richmond, Virginia medical examiner's office. Cornwell exploded onto the mystery scene in 1990 with "Post Mortem", one of the most critically acclaimed debuts ever, and the first novel to win an Edgar Award, Anthony Award, Macavity Award and the John Creasey Award all in one year. Cornwell's initial inspiration to write came from her close neighbor and friend, Ruth Bell Graham, the wife of evangelist Billy Graham. Cornwell's first book, a biography of Graham, was published in 1983. Ironically the book caused a rift in their relationship, but Cornwell followed it with a series of mysteries that would make her famous and wildly successful.

Praise

San Francisco Chronicle Book Review
"Patricia Cornwell writes like a novelist now, even from the depths of the mystery subgenre she made famous. The nearly surreal opening scene of 'Unnatural Exposure' makes Cornwell's latest Kay Scarpetta mystery immediately gripping and quite possibly literary." - Patricia Holt 07/13/1997

Washington Post Book World
"Cornwell is a wonderfully evocative writer who can create a scene with a few crisp sentences, and transcribe the details of an autopsy with precision." - Paul Skenazy 07/20/1997

New York Times Book Review
"Cool, abrasive, and sharper than a Stryker saw, the forensic pathologist dominates this thriller with her forceful personality as she tears around the country trying to contain an unidentified smallpox-like virus." - Marilyn Stasio 07/27/1997

Literary Review
"Imitators now abound, but--pathologically speaking--nobody does it like Cornwell." October 1997
