From the Publisher:
It is July 2003. In the middle of its maiden voyage, the luxury cruise ship Emerald Dolphin suddenly catches fire and sinks. What caused it? Why didn't the alarms go off? What was its connection to the revolutionary new engines powering the ship? NUMA special projects director Dirk Pitt races to rescue the passengers and investigate the disaster, but he has no idea of the bizarre events that are about to engulf him.

Before the next few weeks are over, Pitt will find himself confronted by an extraordinary series of monsters, both human and mechanical, modern and ancient. He will tread upon territory previously known only to legend. And, at the end of it all, though many lives will be lost, and many saved, it is Pitt's own life that will be changed forever...

Filled with dazzling suspense and breathtaking action, Valhalla Rising is Cussler at the height of his storytelling powers.

Someone will stop at nothing to get a leather case belonging to a certain Dr. Egan, who has invented an engine that runs on seawater. First, these unknown villains sink Egan's cruise ship, killing the doctor but failing to obtain the case. It falls into the hands of fellow passenger Kelly Egan--the doctor's beautiful daughter. She is rescued from the sinking ship by Cussler's series hero Dirk Pitt, who happened to be in the area aboard his research vessel. Now Pitt finds himself, once again, at the center of a complex, high-tech, international thriller.
Author Bio
Clive Cussler
Born in Aurora, Illinois, Cussler grew up mainly in California where he attended Pasadena City College before joining the Air Force during the Korean War. Serving as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer, Cussler eventually left the service to work in advertising as a copywriter, moving on to become creative director of some of the country's most prestigious agencies. Cussler didn't begin writing novels until he was 34, and it wasn't until eight years later in 1973 that he published a novel featuring Dirk Pitt, the hero he is most famous for creating. Since then, Cussler has gone on to write a long list of best-selling adventure novels, which have been translated into 40 languages and have been sold in over 135 countries. He has served as chairman of the National Underwater & Marine Agency, and as a fellow in the Explorers Club of New York, the Royal Geographic Society in London, and the American Society of Oceanographers. Cussler is married to Barbara Knight, with whom he has had three children. He spends much of his time on his favorite hobby, tending to his sizable collection of rare and classic cars.
