Children are fascinated by watching plants grow, and in this colorful picture book even very young children can follow along with a family as they plant, tend, and harvest a vegetable garden. The sun shines brightly, summer rain falls, and vegetables grow and ripen. “ The watery, translucent watercolors . . . capture the vitality of all growing things, including the children.” --"The Horn Book"
From the Publisher:
Over the course of the summer, a family plants a vegetable garden, watches the vegetables grow and ripen, tends their crops, and enjoys their harvest.
Annotation:
A family, including the pet dog, enthusiastically tends to their garden. Watercolor illustrations accompany the rhyming text.
Author Bio
Douglas Florian
Educated at Queens College of the City University of New York and the School of Visual Arts, author/illustrator Douglas Florian began his career as a political cartoonist. Although he considers himself more of an artist than a writer, Florian is well-known for his children's books--many of which feature his original, humorous poetry. His first book for children, A BIRD CAN FLY, was published in 1980 and his 1994 effort, BEAST FEAST, won the Lee Bennett Hopkins Award for Poetry.
