I travel a lot for work and I was getting tired of lugging around my laptop with me everywhere. I was introduced to the Viliv S5 and I think it is one of the best purchases I've ever made! I love that I can store a bunch of movies on there, sync up my pictures from my camera (not to mention being able to upload them to Facebook or Picasa), have access to my entire iTunes library, sync up my work documents (Spreadsheets, Power Point and e-mail) AND on top of all that, I can use it as a GPS device and find local restaurants and get directions! (I purchased Street Deck - it was definitely worth the investment). The Viliv S5 has pretty good battery life, too. So basically when I travel, I leave my iPod and my laptop behind. Plus, when I'm staying within the US, I save the company money by not renting out a GPS device from Hertz! When I bought the device I was torn between the WiFi version and the 3G version. I think it's just personal preference. I have a MiFi card so that I can use it as a personal hotspot with my Viliv or my laptop anytime. Some people prefer to just get a 3G connection so they don't have to carry around something extra.

Pocketable Windows XP Computer

I have a Viliv S5 and love it. The battery runs for several hours on a single charge and it wakes up from sleep in about 3 seconds. It's small enough to fit in a large pocket- like in a coat or most cargo pants. One of the best things about the Viliv is that I can install whatever I want on it, including applications that I use on my desktop computer. Make sure to get the leather case, it's actually pretty nice and it's saved my Viliv on a couple of occasions. I have Office 2007 on mine and it runs just fine. I don't use it to enter a lot of data, but it's fine for reviewing and editing documents. Read More

TM Silverthorne 1.2GHz CPU. From a pocket PC standpoint, the S5 has a surreal (for its size) battery life of 7 hours of use. Along with a instant-on feature that allows you to resume Windows XPTM from sleep in under five seconds--and commensurate 200-hour standby time)--the S5 is unique in being a truly ultraportable device that delivers the full rich web experience. Rich web is complemented by rich media. The S5 supports 720p HD video playback, and features integrated Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The impressive UI technology includes on-screen keyboard with haptic feedback like a smartphone, as the Viliv "Cube UI" overlay that allows you to select up to 36 bubbles (5 categories, 180 total programs) and assign them to any of the available "bubbles", even arrange programs by type so you can keep your productivity software separate from your play software, and switch between them with the flick of your finger.

Let's take a closer look at a variety of ways the S5 can add a touch of the sublime to the banalities of daily life and work.

No need to switch back and forth between your car and handheld GPS, because the Viliv S5 is with you anywhere you go. The optional kit makes it easy to use in the car, and the incredible battery life assures this is a reliable solution.

Multimedia/entertainment experience: Now you can have a full portable media player, without giving up functionality--or heavy usage. With its full version of Windows XPTM Home, you can run iTunesTM or any other preferred media player. HD/Streaming: No longer do you have to bring your heavy laptop to the couch or be tied to your uncomfortable office chair and desktop computer. The Viliv S5 is capable of playing 720p HD video in a variety of formats, and you can even stream your favorite new shows from FoxTM, CBSTM, HuluTM, etc., easily and smoothly from anywhere, whether the couch or your bed. With the optional TV Out cable, you can even hook up the S5 to your HDTV for a full home theatre experience.

Haptic keyboard: The latest on-screen technology featuring haptic feedback,, provides a welcome feeling of accuracy to users who once may have been hesitant to use a touchscreen only device. Cube UI: The unique Cube UI lets you add and remove programs for easy access at your fingertips. Select up to 36 programs for each category and assign them to any of the available "bubble".
