The problem I had with my Killer 2100, is that it is not compatible with my Verizon FiOs Internet. These Network Cards aren't compatible with the Verizon FiOs routers apparently, and nothing has been done to fix that problem.
A Gamers Take...11/23/2010
Installation: Installing this thing was really simple... Found the slot, took me like 1 minute to remove the little panel on my tower, popped it in... and voila! Started up my computer threw in the software and I had it up and running within no time. Software layout: Once you got the software installed and you can open the Killer Network Manager; its fairly simple to get set up and figure out. You have basically a couple sections that you mess with. First, you can test your network speed and read your upload and download capability(standard). Then the cool part is in the application's section. You have everything thats running, or not running, on a list and you can choose to show either or. I currently just have my running programs showing and this is where you basically can control how much bandwith each program uses individually. Some programs I just use the pre-sets which rang from 1-4, 4 being the lowest priority, and 1 being the highest. But for some people, including me, you might wanna get more specific with some programs after you watch the upload/download bars jump around as you use your internet related programs. For me, I have Mumble(a VoIP prog. like Ventrilo) set to Highest, Steam.exe set to normal since it just idle's, then I have hl.exe(Counter-strike 1.6 baby) set to highest as well. Those are all my altered pre-sets. Everything else I have at normal. The only other thing I consistently have running in the backround is mIRC. Now with this program instead of having it on a pre-set, I slide both the bars down really low, so I have the Max on the upload at 0.25 mbps and the download at 1.8 mbps. So thats my default set up. Also, sometimes you might wanna have a download running in the backround or maybe a game updating from the internet and you can shift the download speed so it's still making progress but its not effecting your gameplay or routing to the servers. Overall: You can get really specific with all the settings and customize based on what you do while you're playing, but I just wanted to cover a couple of the things I alter with it. Otherwise the hardware works as advertised, my routing has gotten better to every location on the east coast, and I'm living in San Diego. I'd say if you arent serious about gaming to snag one of these. It makes your internet experience in general much more efficient and you don't need to be a genius to install one.
Do some research11/16/2010
I did not research the item. I bought this on a whim of a magazine ad. I do admit it does what it describes but the issues that came with were troublesome. There are some prgrams and hardware that must be attended to first before actually using and to be stable. I have kept this item and jumped through all the hoops and it works fantastic. Be prepared for the worse.
A good overall network card11/15/2010
This network card is a very solid overall product. I noticed higher FPS and an overall smoother game play while using this card. It's very recommended!
The Bigfoot Networks Killer 2100 is a great network card. The software is very easy to install and its basicly plug it in and play. I've noticed that my ping has gone down in games and my downloads are going faster.
I am an extremely competitive gamer and was having latency problems with my standard MOBO network so I heard that the bigfoot 2100 was an amazing NIC that would drastically reduce the latency of my games and I must say I was not disappointed. With this NIC It feels as if I am playing on LAN latency which has given me a big advantage in my online performance.
