Editor's Note
In 2002, the Staatsoper Stuttgart undertook the formidable task of mounting Richard Wagner's massive opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen, in its entirety, with all four installments staged back to back. All four of the individual productions from that festival appear here. The set begins with Das Rheingold, starring Wolfgang Probst, Michaela Schuster and Esa Ruuttunen, and directed for the stage by Joachim Schlömer. The interpretation of Die Walküre seen here stars Robert Gambill, Renate Behle and Angela Denoke, and was directed for the stage by Christoph Nel. The third installment in the 2002 Stuttgart Ring Cycle, Siegfried, stars Jon Fredric West, Lisa Gasteen and Wolfgang Schöne and was co-directed by Sergio Morabito and Jossi Wieler. Finally, Stuttgart's production of Götterdamerung stars Luana DeVol, Albert Bonnema and Roland Bracht and was directed for the stage byu Peter Konwitschny. All four productions feature musical accompaniment by the Chor der Staatsoper Stuttgart and the Staatsorchester Stuttgart. Lothar Zagrosek conducts.
