| Addie is waiting for normal, but Addie''s mom has an all-or-nothing approach to life: a food fiesta or an empty pantry, jubilation or gloom, her way or no way. In spite of life''s twists and turns, Addie remains optimistic that someday, she''ll find normal. |
|
From the Publisher:
Addie tries to cope with her mother's erratic behavior and being separated from her stepfather and half-sisters when she and her mother go to live in a trailer by the railroad tracks on the outskirts of Schenectady, New York. |
Annotation:
Twelve-year-old Addie loves her stepfather, Dwight, and is devastated when he and her mother divorce and he moves away, taking Addie's stepsisters with him. Although she stays in close contact with Dwight, Addie is now dependent on her flighty, rather neglectful mother. Still, the ever-resourceful Addie manages to make life for herself and her mother comfortable, and so she is dismayed when her mother takes off with a new boyfriend, leaving Addie to fend for herself. Hoping that her mother will eventually return, Addie decides to keep her absence a secret. Will she be able to cope with life on her own and will her mother ever come home?
