War Zone (2010)
Editor's NoteBy most assessments, Kandahar Air Base, situated in Southeastern Afghanistan and run by the British as a NATO operative, houses a massive number of contradictions. Case in point: though it has luxury amenities - including fast food, gyms, and massage parlors - its resident soldiers hear bomb sirens sounding daily, and are constantly subjected to the deafening roar of jet planes thundering overhead. This raises serious questions about what it actually feels like for an estimated 14,000 troops to inhabit the base for an extended period of time. This epic-length documentary program attempts to ask exactly that question, with a thorough and detailed examination of life inside of this massive facility.
