| Three great Warner classics in one boxed set! Each title a two-disc special edition! Contents include: THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD; THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE; and YANKEE DOODLE DANDY. Also, this collection includes a bonus disc: Here's Looking at You, Warner Bros.! THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD: Dashing Errol Flynn duels his way across medieval England in this lavish, witty, fast-paced retelling of this classic tale. The Adventures Of Robin Hood abounds with vivid scenes of derring-do: Robin battling a horde of Norman knights narrowly escaping the hangman's noose, splitting his rival's arrow to win a suspenseful archery contest, or the Merry Men leaping from trees--swords ready--to liberate a tax shipment. The best action scene is saved for last: the dazzling climactic duel to the death between Robin and Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone). THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE: Gold in the hills, avarice in the hearts of men. Two hard-luck drifters (Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt) and a grizzled prospector (Walter Huston) discover gold. Then greed and paranoia set in. Shot mostly on location in Mexico, The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre cost a then whopping $3 million--and led to a showdown. At that price, Jack Warner argued, the top-billed Bogart shouldn't be bumped off before the finale. But director John Huston stood his ground and went on to win high honors: two Academy Awards for his direction and screenplay. And his father won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actor. Without awards, but with enduring acclaim, is Bogart's performance, transforming before our eyes from a likable hobo to a heartless thug who simmers in his own greed. A half-century later, it's placement on the American Film Institute's Top 100 American Films confirms it's still a powerful movie. YANKEE DOODLE DANDY: James Cagney dusted off his dancing shoes and danced off with an Academy Ward for his portrayal of song-and-dance man George M. Cohan in the spectacular musical Yankee Doodle Dandy. Follow Cohan's career from his boyhood days hoofing in the family vaudeville act through his years as author, producer and star of Broadway hits. Along the way, enjoy "It's A Grand Old Flag", "Over There", "Give My Regards To Broadway", the title tune and many more songs, all presented in exhilarating, heart-thumping style. Zestfully directed by Michael Curtiz, Yankee Doodle Dandy was nominated for eight Oscars and won three (Best Scoring Of A Musical Picture and Best Sound Recording were the other two). But it is Cagney, hand-picked by Cohan himself, who makes the film a "Cagney Doodle Dandy". Named to the American Film Institute's Top 100 American Films, it's 126 minutes of irresistible showmanship and fun! |
