Best Performance/High Cost
This hard drive is quite honestly the highest performing desktop drive you can buy short of bringing a SCSI controller and drive to your desktop. Put it this way, I loaded Windows XP Pro on this drive in less than 10 minutes. Of course, that kind of performance comes at a cost far exceeding similar sized drives. If you want the best, here it is. If you want or need something other than the very best, you are better off looking elsewhere due to the cost factor involved. Other SATA 80 GB drives can be had for 1/3 the cost of this drive. Other issues are the noise that the drive makes and the heat that it produces. The noise is not that significant. It is about the same as a Maxtor ATA drive, although not as quiet as other Western Digital Special Edition 7200 RPM drives I currently use. It also produces more heat than 7200 RPM drives, so you should be aware of possible ventilation issues your particular setup might require with additional heat.
