Customer Reviews of West Bend 82416 Air Crazy Hot Air Popcorn Popper
This is a very nice looking Corn Popper until you actually use it. First I'd say this popper only "pops" 80% of the corn you put in it (the rest will simply get thrown into the bowl as is), second, while the popping occurs, you might want to stand back as the corn is flying out of this thing and will go all over your kitchen. They must have designed it to be used with a special bowl that I don't have and the result is a mess ... literally. Once you get over all of that, the popcorn is eatable.
Fun throw-back to the old days3/23/2012
Great popcorn popper fun nastalgic way to have popcorn. Does get hot, but batch is popped in very short time.
good for health and wealth6/19/2011
it is of very low cost but it is very good for health in a very budget amount. Good snack when friends come in to enjoy as it can is very easy to prepare and doesn't need much of the in-gradients to add. It also doesn't attract much electricity which makes it more comfortable for buying.
Needs design improvement4/24/2011
Blows unpopped seeds out requiring a little too much work per batch of popped corn.
Do NOT Buy this Hot Air Popper1/21/2011
This is a HORRIBLE hot air popper. About 25% of the kernels will come out unpopped and I find unpopped kernels all over the kitchen since they come out with force. Jill from Customer Service of West Bend says that they know it does not pop Orville Redenbacher popcorn well but will not take back the item as defective. The body of the popper is too shallow to allow the kernels to spin without spitting out prior to being popped. Complete waste of money and extremely disappointing.
Good in Theory1/11/2011
Bought this on sale for 14.99, so great price. The problem is with the performance of this unit. When 1 kernel pops, it sends about 5 more out of the unit unpopped. Sometimes the unpopped kernel then decides to pop in the bowl, sending popcorn everywhere. That being said the kids love to watch it adn the dog loves the pieces that hit the floor. Also generates a wonderful smell almost like roasted peanuts when popping popcorn. I probably would not recommend this particular unit, and definitely would not buy at $29.99.
Large portion of unpopped kernels1/10/2011
It's a little gadget that my 10-year old son figured it out how to operate without my help. However, I noticed, as one of the reviewers pointed out, that many kernels were not popped because they jumped out prematurely. A ~30% of kernels ended up not popped. What a waste! On the positive side, this is still cheaper than microwave popcorn and I can control and butter and salt added in the popcorn.
Fantastic Popcorn Air Popper1/3/2011
Wonderful for kids who want to start popping their own popcorn. I have so far only used it for popping without adding any butter. It's been safe for 8 & 10 year old to operate. Great product. Used the exact amount suggested and didn't have any unpopped kernels and I used the cheapest I found in the store; nothing fancy to pop.
Cheaper than microwave popcorn12/18/2010
You'll get your money's worth after a few dozen uses when compared to microwave popcorn. It indeed does make a mess and like half of the kernels fly out unpopped but you can always put them back in. I don't use butter because I like to keep it healthy. This is ideal for making a quick, healthy and above all, CHEAP snack.
Nice for the price12/17/2010
Hard to beat this popper at this price. It's as simple and direct as it gets, and is attractive in appearance as well. Nothing fancy about using melted butter. The little tray doesn't automatically butter or anything. It's just a place that gets warm and will melt the butter so you can hand-pour. When the instructions says not to use gourmet popping corn, they're serious. This thing will blow the expensive stuff as unpopped kernels into your bowl. So, buy the cheap stuff bag-o-seed and enjoy. One reviewer mentioned this--I'm guessing he's using Reddenbakker like I did. In answer to previous question, it runs on power from the wall with an AC plug.
Spews the kernels out before they can pop.12/15/2010
When the corn starts popping, the un-popped kernels start coming out too. At least half the kernels come out before they have a chance to pop.
Lives up to it's name... crazy12/13/2010
I'm still experimenting with how to use this thing but so far I'm less than impressed with it's performance. As other people have stated it spits popped corn out with some force and if you aren't there holding a bowl right up to it you'll find that your dog gets more pop corn than you do... Along with that about 30% of the output is unpopped kernels that get spit up and out of the popper every time a kernel 'pops'. It seems that adding a higher qty of kernels at the beginning diminishes this problem a bit but you end up with a LOT of popcorn every time you want to use it this way, and towards the end it still spits out a lot of unpopped kernels. I got it on sale for $15 and personally wouldn't but it again even at that price. A pot on the stove burner works a lot better and is just as easy.
Easy and efficient12/12/2010
Does the job in a short amount of time and doesn't take up a lot of room on the counter or in the cabinet. Works great overall.
