Wherever You Are (2005) - Grammy Winner!
Artist: Third Day
War. Floods. Devastation. Paranoia. Political upheaval. Through it all, there is hope.
Troubling times to be sure, nonetheless the current backdrop for Third Day's steely-eyed eighth album, Wherever You Are. Berthed amid a storm of personal crises, as well as the troubling events beamed nonstop through the media, it may just be the band's most galvanizing moment. It's certainly its most personal.
Further honing their ever-sharpening song writing skills, Third Day, who's stood atop the Christian rock world for the better part of a decade, continue the work they started in earnest on the Grammy-winning, gold-selling Wire. With a keen eye for introspection, the Atlanta-based rockers leave over-arching testaments of faith behind, instead choosing to dig deep and dirty into the travails of everyday life. There is turmoil. There is celebration. There is heartbreak. There is happiness. There are tears and plenty of what Powell calls the "major catastrophes in our everyday lives." But fighting through the swirling clouds of doubt, there is hope. And God is present in the midst of it all.

With their husky vocals and uplifting roots-rock anthems, Third Day come off as post-Hootie heartland rockers before the faith-based aspect of their sound even comes up. WHEREVER YOU ARE lacks in neither the surging tunes that made the band Contemporary Christian Music's premier rock band, nor the devotional, spiritually inspirational lyrics that mark them as part of the CCM universe.

Statistics will tell you that most bands cannot last together for more than 5 years. That the pressure of life, the industry, and big egos kill a band's longevity. Well, Third Day, bucks this trend as they move through their second decade of music making... and as a band are closer than ever before. They started out as carefree teenagers and twenty something bachelors with a van and a passion to play music, and after many highs and lows the band feels blessed and blown away by the love their fans send their way.
