BOOK DESCRIPTION/COPY

In a fading town, far from anyone he knew or trusted, a young Lemony Snicket began his apprenticeship in an organization nobody knows about. He began asking questions that shouldn’t have been on his mind. Now he has written an account that should not have been published, in four volumes that shouldn’t be read. This is the first volume.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lemony Snicket had an unusual education and a perplexing youth and now endures a despondent adulthood. His previous accounts and research have been collected and published as books, including those in A Series of Unfortunate Events, 13 Words, and The Composer is Dead. This is his first authorized autobiographical work.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR Seth is no stranger to a town that is fading. He is a multi-award-winning cartoonist, author, and artist, whose works include Palookaville, Clyde Fans, and The Great Northern Brotherhood of Canadian Cartoonists. He lives in Guelph, Canada.
From the Publisher:
In a fading town, far from anyone he knew or trusted, a young Lemony Snicket began his apprenticeship in an organization nobody knows about. He started by asking questions that shouldn't have been on his mind. Now he has written an account that should not be published, in four volumes that shouldn't be read. This is the first volume.
Annotation:
Lemony Snicket's nose for sleuthing started at the age of 12, and led him in odd and unexpected directions. Best known for his chronicle of the wretchedly unlucky but brilliant Baudelaire children, Snicket shares tales that may or may not be based in truth from his youthful years. Learning at the feet of one S. Theodora Markson, known to be the worst at what she does in the obscure, unnamed agency to which she belongs. When the pair investigates the disappearance of the sea from a seaside village, they find that absolutely no one has pure motivations when helping them. This is the first in the All the Wrong Questions quartet about the fabled Lemony Snicket's strange childhood and early cases. With illustrations by famed cartoonist Seth.

Praise

"Full of Snicket's trademark droll humor and maddeningly open-ended, this will have readers clamoring for volume two." 08/27/2012

"[T]his book is no mere exercise in genre spoofing; this is, after all, a Lemony Snicket novel. That means you get a delightfully eccentric supporting cast....It also means you get snarkily dry humor...and unapologetic blasts of absurdity....And, as with all Snicket novels, you get a narrator with a penchant for defining every 10-cent word he uses. All of it serves to make the tween Lemony a lively and endearingly peculiar protagonist....." - Christopher Healy 10/14/2012

"Fans of the Series of Unfortunate Events will be in heaven picking out tidbit references to the tridecalogy, but readers who've yet to delve into that well of sadness will have no problem enjoying this weird and witty yarn." 09/01/2012

"Written in Snicket's gloomy, yet undeniably charming, signature style and populated with wonderfully quirky characters, this enjoyable start of a new series will thrill fans of the author's earlier works and have even reluctant readers turning pages with the fervor of seasoned bookworms. A must-have." December 2012
