Notes & Personnel Info
Muze PNote Another example of how much care goes into a Tyler Perry soundtrack, Why Did I Get Married Too? is a prime set of "grown folks" R&B with some selections that will surprise even the snobbiest of music snobs. Here it's the excellent choice of neo-soul man Mayer Hawthorne and his nostalgic gem "A Strange Arrangement." Even the too-hip crate-crawlers at Hawthorne's Stones Throw label will respect choices like the Vanguards and Bob & Gene, as they are forgotten gems, but you don't need to be a musical history buff to appreciate that these soul tunes are solid. To represent the film's Caribbean setting, reggae artists Ziggy Marley and John Brown's Body give the album that sunshine feel, while Irma Thomas brings the blues with the gutsy "In the Middle of It All." Add to that a smooth ballad from the film's star Janet Jackson and this Hollywood souvenir can double as the soundtrack to Mom and Dad's date night, the one big exception being the disco diva rave-up "It's Raining Men," which is conveniently placed at the end of the collection. ~ David Jeffries
