Product Overview

After graduation, Lewis returns to Wichita to find his mother involved in a Ponzi scheme with multiple boyfriends living at their house. She tells Lewis she''s starting a storm-chasing business and invites him on a ride. Things resemble the land of Oz more than Wichita in this comic novel.

"There's never a dull moment in a novel which fires us up with snappy and often very funny dialogue."
"Its emotional terrain is touching and vast. Whereas you might begin the book drawn in by its sense of humor, its ending will unhinge you, as if a storm has ripped through you. . . "
From the Publisher
Annotation Lewis Chopik has a disapproving father, a bipolar brother, an ex-girlfriend who is dating his archenemy, and an eccentric mother, Abby, who is trying to start a guide business catering to storm chasers. Abby also dabbles in polyamorous relationships and has an aging, drug-brewing hippie living in a tent in her backyard. Despite those less-than-ideal conditions, upon graduating from his Ivy League college, Lewis returns to her home in Wichita, Kansas. When a powerful storm hits and he accompanies Abby to the Flint Hills with her first paying client, it might just be the event that blows his life back on course.
Editors Note Lewis Chopik has just graduated from Columbia University. Having been dumped by his girlfriend and in flight from the pressures exerted by his ambitious professor father, Lewis returns to Wichita in search of respite at the home of his New-Ager mother, Abby. But when Abby picks Lewis up from the airport, she reveals that she's starting a storm-chasing business and indulging a polyamorous lifestyle. Another unexpected arrival is Seth, Lewis's bi-polar younger brother, who shows off a new tattoo on his chest: In Loving Memory of Seth Chopik.
