"A rowdy, ramshackle funfest...What are you waiting for?  Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Editor's Note
In a selfless act of buddy love, motor-mouthed WEDDING CRASHERS star Vince Vaughn brings four rising comedy stars on a tour of 30 U.S. cities in 30 days, all captured in this documentary/stand-up comedy film. The comics that brave this breakneck-pace journey are Ahmed Ahmed, Bret Ernst, Sebastian Maniscalo, and John Caparulo. Patterned after the old Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, Vaughn's calvalcade of merriment is raunchy and fraternity party-ready, but also surprisingly sweet-natured. Interspersed with Vaughn's skits and the stand-up footage is lots of juicy hand-held tour documentary material: the cities visited, the rowdy fans (including the Katrina victims invited for free), the families of the comics, and plenty of male bonding. Guest stars include John Favreau and Justin Long (in a hilarious pre-tour bit reading Vaughn's part from SWINGERS), and country star Dwight Yoakam (singing a duet with Vaughn). Former child-star-turned-producer Peter Billingsley (A CHRISTMAS STORY) is also aboard, doing skits with Vaughn. Director Ari Sandel keeps the action flowing in a flurry of sound bytes and montage. Best of all is the chance to watch these jokers wrestle with all the anxiety and self-doubt that comes with the territory, then actually change and--in some cases--improve as comedians over the course of the tour. Vaughn holds it together with enough aplomb to surely make old Buffalo Bill proud.

Professional Reviews

Entertainment Weekly
"VINCE VAUGHN'S WILD WEST COMEDY SHOW has a loosey-goosey, what-the-hell spirit that's easy and fun to hook into." 02/15/2008 p.48

Los Angeles Times
"There's a sincere, self-effacing quality to the comedy that makes it succeed with a wide range of audiences....The comics' routines are peppered throughout, but it's the behind-the-scenes footage on the bus and interviews that are most revealing." 02/08/2008

USA Today
"[P]art documentary, part comedy variety show, part travelogue and part buddy road picture. And as the parts come together, the whole thing grows on you." 02/08/2008

Variety 5 of 10
Ungainly titled, overlong, intermittently funny docu laffer "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the Heartland Tour" does just what it says on the tin...Between thesping projects, Vaughn decided in September 2005 to mount and front a modestly scaled variety show and tour it for a solid month in various cities between Hollywood and his hometown of Chicago. Per Vaughn, his twin inspirations were the lack of such an in-person event for modern auds, and an urge to see more of the country...Though pic as a whole mirrors the genial mischief of Vaughn's immensely popular onscreen persona, what's sorely lacking is any creative tension. Everyone seems to get along fine, and, when a minor clash erupts over a hastily arranged benefit show for flood victims, their mixture of resentment and apprehension over having to hand out tickets at an Alabama trailer park comes across more as petulant than ominous. In short order they're back to a life that Ernst describes as "spring break for 30-year-olds"...First-time helmer Ari Sandel's wisest decision was to allow the comics a chance to relate backstories and interact with their families during the trek. To a man, they come across as nice guys, committed to a mercurial craft in an uncertain business full of guys just like them. - Eddie Cockrell 7 of 10
Director Christian Charles made a documentary in 2002 about Jerry Seinfeld's attempt to piece together a show's worth of material after his famous sitcom came to a close. Titled Comedian, the movie offered candid interviews with Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Colin Quinn, and Bill Cosby...Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show makes for a nice companion piece. On the heels of his 2005 hit Wedding Crashers, Vaughn handpicked four Los Angeles comedians and loaded them on a bus for an ambitious traveling concert tour captured on camera by Ari Sandel. The group intended to hit 30 cities in 30 consecutive nights. As you'll see, Hurricane Katrina disrupted plans, but also gave Vaughn and his crew a unique human angle to explore. (Not exploit...big difference)...The professional comedians are upstaged at almost every turn by Vaughn's guest stars. During a rehearsed sketch on stage in Hollywood, longtime collaborator Jon Favreau suggests that anyone could have played Vaughn's role in the iconic buddy comedy Swingers. The challenge opens the door for Dodgeball star Justin Long to do his pitch-perfect Vaughn impersonation...So while West isn't consistently hilarious, it is insightful when trying to better understand the unique individuals drawn to this field. - Sean O'Connell
