Product Overview

Scientist, philosopher, New Age guru, conspiracy theorist, comedian, sci-fi writer: Robert Anton Wilson is all of these and more. Impossible to pin down or label, he is without a doubt one of the most distinctive and unconventional minds of his generation. With over 26 books to his credit, he is best-known for his seminal Illuminatis Trilogy, a sprawling, philosophically diverse, conspiracy-oriented piece of science fiction that generated a movement of disciples in its wake. Wilson has also recorded a punk rock album, The Chocolate Biscuit Conspiracy, and a comedy album, Secrets of Power. This fascinating document, comprised of footage that spans 25 years of Wilson's life, provides insight into the anachronistic mind of Pope Bob, as he is known to fans. It features interviews with RU Sirius, Tom Robbins, Rev. Ivan Stang, and Paul Krassner, and an excellent soundtrack including music by Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin, Ognen Spiroski, The Supplicants, and more.

ReviewSource Reel.com
Review In this beautiful and mind-bending film, lovingly produced by the talented trio of Lance Bauscher, Robert Dofflemyer and Cody McClintock of Deepleaf Productions, Robert Anton Wilson - futurist, conspiracy guru, guerrilla ontologist, former Playboy editor, co-author (with Robert Shea) of the cult classic Illuminatus! trilogy, quantum psychologist, Discordian Pope, standup comic and sit-down philosopher - transcends his reputation as one of the founders of the 20th Century counterculture to take his place as a touchstone of 21st Century culture. The Maybe Logic of the title, for instance, refers to the application of discoveries in the microcosmic realm of quantum physics to the macrocosmic (and every bit as mysterious and illogical) field of human nature, freeing our minds from the simplistic "yes or no, black or white" restrictions of Aristotelian logic to add a little "wiggle room" for ambiguity, alternate explanations, and - above all - compassion.

Review One's enjoyment of Maybe Logic hinges on one's openness to Wilson's ideas, since they are by far its main focus. Indeed, Wilson's "relative meta-beliefs", or catmas (as opposed to absolute beliefs, or dogmas, get it?), virtually are the film, which makes it impossible to review it without reviewing them as well. Unfortunately, Wilson himself gets all but lost in all this discourse, as the film offers precious little insight into his life. (With Wilson credited as an executive producer, perhaps the lack of personal revelation is by design.) Instead, writer/director Lance Bauscher nearly melts our brains with a non-stop barrage of trippy philosophies on the nature of reality.
