Charming Animal Characters
Marvelous and magical! The characters -- even the evil weasels -- are endearing and engaging with perfect voice work and gorgeous animation. This is 1980's 3-d puppet stop-motion pixilation animation, so the movement is not always smooth. Still, it is wondrous to watch the characters blink and talk so realistically and show so much emotion in their expressions. I bought and watched both series 1 and 2 eagerly, although I preferred season 2 because it concentrated on the animal denizens of the Wild Wood and Riverbank without need of human interference. The moral lessons are delivered charmingly and admirably. This isn't empty fluff; neither is it dydactic. The creatures are just being themselves, and in doing so we see what works and what doesn't: more teaching by example than preaching by dogma. Fun fables for families with children and adult individuals alike.
