Easy upgrade

by Juan on 11/8/2010

It was only a short time to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to 7 Ultimate. I am enjoying the new product. Also, it hasn't crashed since I upgraded on my Gateway quad-core PC.

GOOD upgrade

by Nidd on 5/16/2012

I have been using Windows 7 for over a month now. (Received an early copy) I must admit the upgrade experience is a hassle but once you install Windows 7 you will be pleasantly surprised. I recommend a clean install for all users. Windows 7 has a noticeably snappier boot time than Windows Vista. What users will notice most are the changes to the interface. It took some time to get adjust new taskbar but once I became familiar with the new interface, I found it to be an improvement over previous Windows versions.

Product Overview

Designed for people who want it all
Windows 7 Ultimate is the most versatile and powerful edition of Windows 7. It combines remarkable ease-of-use with the entertainment features of Home Premium and the business capabilities of Professional, including the ability to run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode. For added security, you can encrypt your data with BitLocker and BitLocker To Go. And for extra flexibility, you can work in any of 35 languages. Get it all with Windows 7 Ultimate.

Upgrading your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 requires a custom installation which doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings. It's sometimes called a clean installation for that reason.
A custom installation is more complex, and it can sometimes take a couple of hours to complete. For complete details on installation instructions after purchase, please go to / Help & How to section.
An external hard disk. You'll need to move your files off of your PC before you install Windows 7. To make this easier, we recommend a free download called Windows Easy Transfer, which will require an external hard disk. They're readily available at electronics and office supply stores, and they provide an easy way to add additional storage space to your computer.
The original installation discs or setup files for the programs that you want to use with Windows 7. You'll need to reinstall your programs by hand after installing Windows 7. When you run Windows Easy Transfer you will get a report that lists the programs that you are currently using with Windows XP.
