From the Publisher:
The critics' votes are in--Wrestling Sturbridge is a winner! Now available in rack-sized paperback. As the second-best 135-pound wrestler in his high school, Ben watches as a friend's future becomes brighter and his turns dim. Eager to leave his home town of Sturbridge, Pennsylvania--and to avoid a dismal future working in a cinder block factory--Ben looks for a way out.
Set in the small northern Pennsylvania town of Sturbridge, this is the story of high school senior Ben, the second-best 135-pound wrestler in the state. Unfortunately the state's best 135-pound wrestler, Al, goes to the same school as Ben, so Ben spends a lot of time sitting on the bench and serving as Al's workout partner. Frustrated by the limitations of smalltown life, Ben becomes determined to win a wrestling scholarship to college. Only two things stand in his way--Al, and his own lack of self-confidence. To further complicate matters, Ben considers Al not only a worthy opponent, but also his best friend.

Publisher's Catalog
"Beautifully written...a chance to be inside the head of a boy just as he becomes a man." - Pam Conrad

Kirkus Reviews
"The young characters here, male and female, are all athletes, but not stereotyped jocks, and Wallace limns the pleasures and limitations of small-town culture with a sure hand." 05/15/1996

Chicago Tribune Books
"There are only a few contemporary writers who can hit the mark with teenage boys, and Rich Wallace, with his first novel, seems likely to join that group." - Mary Harris Veeder 04/14/1996

Los Angeles Times Book Review
"...the author tells a terrific story--subtle, funny, cleanly drawn. Benny; his pals; his girlfriend, Kim; and his family are all vivid characters and it is a pleasure to read about them." - Karen Stabiner 09/15/1996

"...exciting and well done...a gem that deals with the gritty emotion of being a teenage boy who matures into a man." - C. Allen Nichols June 1997
