Good transition from Windows10/9/2006
It's exactly what I expected. An easy transition from the Windows operating system. I was tired of all the poop with MS and this seems like a nice way to go for those who don't write code. Only thing minorly difficult so far is installing new programs. Sometimes you have to write a little lines of code but the community for Linux is very helpful in learning what to do. The only room for improvement on this product I see is making it more usable for online games. Apparently it will not run Battlefield 2 so I do still have it dual booted with Win XP so I can play online.
Xandros Works Great9/12/2006
I think this is an excellent investment. I'm fairly experienced with GNU/Linux, but my wife is not. I've found that Xandros Desktop has greatly reduced the trouble of administration and fixing problems my wife has. It is much easier than managing my wifes Microsoft Win98 PC, because I have found no viruses or spyware on Xandros, even after a week! The support has been good because I get response both on the registered access, and on the public forum. Good job on putting together Xandros. One problem I haven't resolved yet is that it does not seem to include a money management program such as gnucash or KMyMoney. They say I could use Quicken if I owned it. Well, hopefully kmymoney will be available soon!
xandros Linux Version 4.09/5/2006
This operating system is the best Linux software I have found. It is easy to install. It is easier to use than Windows XP. It comes with Open Office as the word processor. I have it loaded on three different pc's. All different brands. I have made cd's. Saved files to Cd's. Played music. Surfed the web. It comes with Firefox browser. Updates are easy and automatic if you want. If you had window loaded you can retain your personal files and use them with xandros. like pictures, etc. You can run some of Windows programs if you need, but this OS is pretty complete. I have used three or four other Linux programs, but this is the best hands down.
Xandros is Great!!9/5/2006
I purchased this program because I was looking for a good and simple Linux Operating System to become familiar with. I found a lot, lot more. Xandros is so robust and so full featured, as well as simple to install and use. Xandros is what Windows should be. Xandros is what Windoes will never be. Clean, dependable, compatible, full featured way beyond a fast and intelligent operating system, and also inexpensive. Buy this software- you will be amazed!!
The Easiest Linux Based Operating System On The Pl9/2/2006
<p> Xandros Desktop OS has always been very easy to use. This latest edition packs even more features into the same price. Specifically, it adds a photo manager, music manager with iPod compatibility, logical volume management, an integrated security suite, and support for writing to NTFS (Windows) partitions. The look has been spruced up and everything, including the printed manual and the fonts, look cleaner and slicker. The standard applications (Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.) have been updated to their latest editions. The other important applications include Crossover Office Standard, NTFS write support, CD and DVD burning, and Versora Progression Desktop. Add to that the included printed manual which I found to be very useful, and it packs a lot of punch for the money. </p> <p> Installation is easy and fast, and most hardware is automatically detected and configured. If you already have Windows, it will install itself alongside Windows and you will be able to use your files stored under Windows. The interface is similar to Windows so you will be up and running with very little new learning to do. In fact, you will even be able bring some of your Windows applications (like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) to Xandros since you can run these under Crossover Office. There are a few gotchas that you must watch out for, however: </p> <ul> <li>NTFS write support sometimes messes things up a little but people have reported that scandisk under Windows sets things right without data loss.</li> <li>Hardware support is still limited. Xandros now provides a 30 day trial edition that you can download from their website. Its a good idea to get this and check whether it will work for you.</li> <li>This edition requires you to register your product and obtain a key before you can get updates. Some people have expressed a dislike for this idea. Unlike Windows however, the OS itself remains fully functional without the key.</li> <li>There continues to be a dearth of off-the-shelf applications for Linux. You are limited to what the open source community produces. This is not a fault in Xandros per se but just another factor to be aware of.</li>
