The YST-SW315 is Yamaha's newest subwoofer model, designed to provide extremely high quality bass performance for the enjoyment of both music and movies. It use two highly acclaimed technologies, Advanced YST and QD-Bass, to deliver deep and powerful bass with an amazing degree of clarity. A BASS (Bass Action Selector System) switch lets you choose between Music and Movie modes and you can also adjust the cutoff frequency of the high cut filter, giving you the best possible response with every sound source. Sophisticated and powerful, this subwoofer will make every system sound a great deal better.
Nothing could have prepared me for the sound that this speaker produces, it is amazing. I have never heard a "clean" bass sound before this. I highly advice buying this if you are shopping for subs.
YSt-SW315 - A SUPER Value, REALLY3/16/2011
On 3/6/2011 I reviewed this product (see below), but I needed to return with more information. I was listening to a television program that is broadcast in 5.1 at a volume that what would be considered "speaking loudly" (as if talking to a group of a dozen people, so not too loud). In the movie, there was an explosion off to the side and the subwoofer rumbled (not boomed poorly) and for a brief moment (until I realized it was part of the movie) I really thought there had been an explosion in my neighborhood! This subwoofer did exactly what a subwoofer should do, it delivered low frequency bass in such a way that you have no idea where the sound is originating . . . that's the way a sub is suppose to work; if a sub is doing its job, and you place it in the right spot in your room, you should not be able to detect where the sub is located (with your eyes closed). This sub does a marvelous job, even at very reasonable listening volumes. At a price point of $199, the value and quality of this subwoofer is exceptional. You won't be disappointed. Additionally, I have also tested this sub at very loud volumes (at about 90% of what my total receiver volume output is capable) and I've not been disappointed yet. There are "better" subs out there . . . but at this price point (currently about $199), at a 250 watt dynamic range, you will not be disappointed, guaranteed.
YST-SW315 - A SUPER Value3/6/2011
I've owned several brands through the years, and I've experienced Marantz products via family members who have nice set-ups, but I must say, this Yamaha YST-SW315 is a super value with great sound. Hands down just as good as the "other" brands. I was suspect when first purchasing it because it claimed 250 Watt of dynamic range, but for the price ($199 at the time when everyone else wanted $260-$299) I figured I'd return it if it turned out to be a lame product. I am totally happy with the sound and build quality of this product for the price. It compliments my Yamaha RX-V1065 nicely.
My family room is 25 x 25 with 2-story vaulted ceilings and this sub does a great job filling the room with base. I can now feel the rumble of explosions while watching movies. Music from my receiver sounds clear and crisp. I replaced my Bose passive sub for this active sub and what an improvement. I still have all my Bose speakers for my front, rear and center channel and it was easy to adjust my sub to match. I put the sub in the corner of the room at an angle but the low frequency sound improved when I squared up the sub with the corner and moved it about 18 inches away from the wall. This sub has plenty of power to overload this room. I had to turn it down when grandma came for a visit. The auto on and off feature works well but does make a loud click when it switches. I looked and listened to every standard consumer sub and this was the best choice for the money.
